Lets Just Stick a Pin in the While 'Wanting to Devour the Soul of the World' thing...

Was Sephiroth that bad of a guy? Relative to like... Cloud. I mean, flip, Sephi never betrayed the memory of his best friend who died to save him. And he tried to topple fascism where Cloud... supported it.

This applies to any major video game villian/movie villian. Pick one! That is, a villian you are supposed to hate or recognize as evil, (even if they are somewhat sympathetic,) that you actually found to be a nobler person than the hero, or at least thought there cause as moral.

NOTE: This does not count cases where this is done intentionally.

I've given ya'll an example. So... Go!

The machine race in the Matrix trilogy. They provided the humans and themselves with a win-win scenario. The AI was even open enough at the end to accept Neo's offer for peace (even though Neo didn't have the "authority" to speak for all of humanity), which probably meant that they were open to the idea of peace in the first place and got struck first by humanity (everyone knows we did it). The machines could have otherwise obliterated their chief problem in one fell swoop in Zion, found other means of energy production (as the AI declared they were prepared for) and been done with the headache. Do they get headaches? Well, the AI obviously had the capacity for emotion. Even Smith, who was still no more than a program even in the end, experienced anger and frustration. So did the giant baby-face of the AI as it yelled at Neo that they (the machines) needed no one. So they could get frustrated. They were, in that sense, human. They had the superior firepower and decided to opt for peace. Respect.
