Yes, often my dream self reflects on memories of things which could only have happened in his own world, things which I don't actually remember from any dreams. Perhaps he's sneaking off on his own when I'm awake, and doing things I don't know about.<!--QuoteBegin-Leo Volont

What an excellent essay Leo, I enjoyed it very much.
As for the "disengaged Dream Self", my personal experience indicates quite the same. It reveals itself to me in a more detailed way in a regular dream than in a lucid one. Might be due to the fact that the Dream Self doesn't control itself in a lucid dream - the conscious mind takes the control over, forcing the Dream Self to the background with it's thoughts, memories and behaviour.
Usually, when I recall a regular dream, I recall my affiliation with the Dream Characters in that particual dream, along with where and, most importantly, why I was there. And, I've trained my Dream Self to behave normally in regular dreams so it wouldn't scare away the DC's. Or would that be my Subconscious fighting with me for the idea of dream control by making everything in dreams be as in Waking Life...
