The Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is remarkably intelligent. He may try to appear as a zealot to his own people, but he's not an idiot. I'm less concerned about the Iranian leader launching nukes than I am about the Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu sparking conventional war.
All the experts have said that Iran isn't currently trying to develop a nuclear weapon, but if they are attacked that pretty much forces them to try and build it in self defense. So if you don't want Iran to have nuclear weapons, we need to stop acting like we are going to attack them.

Ahmadinejad is definitely an interesting character. I haven't quite known what to make of him, really. Outside of a few, dodgy, (some would say) incendiary comments, he seems to make a lot of good points. Of course, what remains to be seen is whether he is genuine or just a really, really good con man...

Doesn't look like that's going to happen. I think the last thing we're going to do is stop applying that pressure on Iran, and they aren't going to stop thumbing our noses at our threats. And even if we decided to sit back and 'let something happen', I don't think Israel is going to let this go on for much longer. With or without us (but most likely counting on our support), I think Israel is going to be dropping the hammer on Iran, regardless.
I have a Jewish friend. I talked to him about a month ago when this was in the news again for some reason. He's normally a rational, pacifistic kinda guy, but he supported attacking Iran. When I said he must be crazy to think attacking a potentially nuclear armed country was a good idea, he was just like, yeah, I guess it is a bad idea. There's a weird culture around it.
It's easy to see where Iran is coming from when Israel has attacked most of the countries in its periphery.
There is no doubt that Israel would attack Iran in a second if they thought they could win. However, it is extremely unlikely they would win without US support. So yes they want to attack and they keep saying they will do it alone but I don't believe. I don't think Israel will attack them without the US, no matter how much they want to. So all the US has to do is not attack, and make it clear we will not attack and peace will remain in the area.
As for Iran acting tough, they have to. If Iran was a smaller country they would have already been attacked. When the other side refuses to use diplomacy and only understands violence, such as the US and Israel, you have to be tough. It is the only thing they understand. That is why there is no serious thought on attack China or Russia, no matter what they do.
Here's the thing, though. I don't believe ANY country is stupid enough to launch a nuke against ANY other country. Mutually Assured Destruction is still how virtually every nation with nukes plans to handle a nuclear attack. Iran wants nukes for self-defence (the US doesn't invade countries with nukes for obvious reasons.)
And for some reason, the US is more Zionist than most Israelis... you'd think we'd learn by now that maybe it isn't the best idea to continue propping up a country that literally the entire Middle East hates, but no, we don't learn.
WHAT IF... THE US is the stupidest country in the world?!
WHAT IF... THE US is the stupidest country in the world?!
Probably not the stupidest, but the most dangerously stupid. If you take the product (stupidity) x (military power), the US is in the lead, with China, Russia, and Israel in a race for 2nd.
