Althouse rule for scientific studies on sexual differences

Submitted for peer review, a sociological hypothesis for scientific studies into the differences between men and women.

If you do scientific research into the differences between men and women, you must portray whatever you find to be true of women as superior. - Ann Althouse

This is a recurring theme at Althouse. Go on. I dare you. Don't laugh.

women just need to shut up and clean...or knit.
      Vin Diesel fact

Vin Diesel once beat Super Mario Bros 3 without even touching his Nintendo controller. He just yelled at his TV in between bites of his "Filet of Child" sandwich, and the game beat itself out of fear.

Ok....I'm still trying to understand. Is the author implying that a woman's analytical nature, toward things like what men find humorous, or even sex, is a sign of superiorty? If not, I missed the entire point of the article. If so, then I disagree.

Perhaps they should have polled how many men/women have been exposed to the type of cartoon humor before the experiment. I'm not a betting man, but I think it would be safe to say that a lot more men would raise their hand, than women. Would it not be illogical to NOT expect a more analytical prespective from the women?
I'm the type of guy that likes to open people up to new experiences, so I see this a lot. I constantly like to lure people into watching, reading, listening to, or just plain experiencing something that they are normally not exposed to, and probably not very Open to, beforehand. My delight comes when they are finished with the experience and are left completely, and unexpectedly satisfied.

This can be no different from when a man sits down to watch a chick flick with his woman, and ends up surprising even himself by Enjoying it. There is a difference? Where?

      Sex and Emotion:
So they are saying that a woman's "Standards" are a sign of superiority, when at the same time, it makes them more succeptable (sp) to becoming downward-spiraling, psychologically imprisoned, victims of emotion-over-rationale.
....I guess it depends on your perspective, because, given the examples, I just don't see this as a sign of Superiority, and I don't doubt that many of the high-maintainence women in America start to question it, when they are sitting alone on the couch eating bon-bons, wondering why they can't keep a good man.

But this is only speculation, and I guess without a more detailed explaination of the author's use of "Superior" it is very hard to completely, and irrevokably (sp), agree or disagree.

Oneironaut, there's a lot of discussion about that particular case in the discussion area of her blog post.

I'm a bit more interested in what she describes as the general tendency ("rule") for science journalists and scientists to make their findings about women sound more superior than their findings about men. So this is a sociological question about scientists and journalistis more than it is about men and women!

I've searched her blog for some of the other times I remember mentioning this, and here are my results in chronological order:

The usual strategy for talking about sex differences
      \"If the theory's right...\"
      \"Women Suffer More than Men.\"

i can prove right now that men are superior to women as far as evolution is concerned........ready?

"i can beat any woman in arm wrestling, therefor i am superior"

evolution comes down to 1 thing and 1 thing only, if all bets were off in a parkinglot late at night who would walk away alive.

Not if the winner in the parking lot can't read street signs and gets hit by a bus the next day.

That's an interesting take on it all.... all you have to do is look to any university thesis... as soon as some research suggests in any way that males are adapted to any task better than females, public outrage hits fever pitch. Yet you'd be a little conused if you looked to any tv sitcom and saw that women are almost always more intelligent and considered, while men are constantly stupid bufoons that seem helpless when confronted by an attractive woman.

I haven't a clue what you're on about. If you have a problem with me, please PM me and we can discuss it.

And not every post I make is a policing job. I happen to be a member of this forum like everyone else too.
