Terrorist knew they will not feel a thing. They might fear pain, but not death. Really, bombs on your tummy = death in 0.001 second. |

perhaps it is the idea that the more pain you suffer, the more worthwhile your accomplishment is. i don't particularly enjoy pain, but i do know that in terms of tattoos, i really enjoy the pain--the more painful the better. i think that when you look back on it you can truly appreciate the event as being a real triumph of your willpower. the more pain you're willing to endure for a cause, the more important that cause is to you. maybe. |

if one believes they will receive a reward for their pain, it makes it bearable, and even 'enjoyable' in some cases. if one believes they will get many virgins in an eternal paradise, minutes or even days/weeks of pain wouldn't be so bad. |

oh, and it angers me to hear about what coca-cola is doing. i am sincerely sorry to hear they are stealing water from those who need it. |

Fearing physical pain is a natural thing, unless perhaps, you happen to have leperosy. Reward for the pain is something that can supercede our natural response to pain, but I do not think that allieviates nervousness. When people get tattoos, they are thinking, " Damn, I know this will hurt like hell, but I know the design is really cool". Also, I don't think that being a masochist is really a disorder. We're all sort of sadistic and masochistic, in our own ways. Sometimes, there is a thrill in physical pain that doesn't make the pain itself feel good, but gets your adrenelene pumping. We all know pain, and while we don't nessesarily love it, we need it in our lives sometimes. Terrorists are the same way. |

I agree with Gwendolyn. I think it is much the case of being young and impressionable. And coupled with that you are brainwashed. |

i think in cases of belief in the afterlife, the more you are willing to sacrifice for whatever divine cause, the more honorable you will be in the afterlife...and generally the most one can sacrifice is one's own life--the more painfully, the better. |
