Where did you get the idea that we the USA thinks that we should only have them.
We do have them, yes. But we created a non nuclear proliferation treaty to try & keep things in order.
It would be unwise for any superpower to now get rid of their Nuclear capabilities. But again it will lead me to the topic subject of what to do with a superpower that can't handle what they have.
