      An Independent United Nations Army

Those of us who are old enough to remember regret how clever Joseph Stalin was when he asked “How many Armored Divisions does the Pope have?” You see, as it happened, the Pope had objected to some of the Soviet Union’s policies and had launched something of a diplomatic offensive in the Forums of Power throughout the World. A great many people were taking the Pope very seriously and this puzzled Stalin. If the Pope had no Armored Divisions, then who cared what the Pope thought?

But such is the case regarding the United Nations today. Its efforts at diplomacy are rendered effectively ridiculous for the same reason that Stalin found the Pope to be ridiculous. There needs to be some actual weight behind the words. A Pope that can’t fire a shot is not worth listening to. Well, there is Moral Authority, but that and several dollars will buy you a cappuccino at Star Bucks.

As it is now, the U.N. has not a single soldier under its own command, but must go begging among its member states. Well, this arrangement reminds us of America’s own Constitutional Crisis – its Great Civil War. You see, at one time America had no unified and independent Army of it own, but possessed only the conglomeration of Regiments from the individual States. Well, as it happened, instead of serving the greater good, many of these State Regiments went to War against the Nation as a whole. So America, while still calling itself a Federation, had effectively transformed itself into a Centralized and Unified Single State.

But now we can see that the United Nations is in the same precarious condition that the United States was in while it allowed itself to be a cluster of competing and warring factions – a Federation. Today, National Armies are as likely to fight for as against other Member States of the U.N.

But then, there are Two United Nations. There is the Security Council that consists of a few Designated Victors of World War Two. This Club of Belligerent Nations, reflecting a Strength that was real 60 years ago, now claims a Traditional Privilege of Veto over the will of all other Nations combined. The collection of suppressed, dominated, and subjugated nations is the General Assembly.

Well, the General Assembly needs to cast off this Tyranny of the Security Council and unite in common cause. Each of these Nations wastes its precious funding on small armies too inconsiderable to matter. Yet if their contributions went into a Common Fund, they could put together an Army sizeable enough to be imposing. Or perhaps the General Assembly could even begin gathering Taxes, receiving them even on a voluntary basis… from people who truly would like to be Citizens of the World. This funding could be used to put together an Army entirely under its own Command.

You see, until the World can finally get together, institutionally and not just sentimentally or symbolically, but with some real strength, then the World is doomed to be crushed under the oppression of any effective Dictatorship… even if the Dictatorship does call itself a Democracy. But what kind of a World Democracy has only one Nation that can vote while a Hundred other Nations must live under thinly veiled intimidations, and unilateral Wars?

The Nation that so prides itself on Democracy must learn that the rest of the World needs to be counted too. But the World must bring more to the table then pencils and paper and stirring heart-felt appeals to justice. How many Divisions does the World have?

The UN should probably just be disbanned. I know your a big fan of large centralized government but I am not. When you look around the world you see countries with all kinds of problems, and at some point you have to ask yourself, do you really want them incharge of you?

Countries should never give up their sovereignty to another, which is what will happen once the UN starts building up an army. That is especially true of a country like the US where we believe we are free. To give control over to another government which can not and will not guarantee us our rights to freedom. The UN is already trying to disarm the world, they have more than once try to pass international laws to ban the use of guns for civilians. They outright tell us they will take away our rights, and people still want to join them.

What a joke. Give the UN an army, next thing you know there will be UN soilders on american soil. You can count on that.

I'm not a big fan of the idea of a one world government.

Although people need to figure out some way to make the UN more effective. Obviously sanctions don't really work.

As said in a conversation between Kim Jong Il and Hans Blix in Team America...

Kim Jong Il: Hans Brix? Oh no! Oh, herro. Great to see you again, Hans!
Hans Blix: Mr. Il, I was supposed to be allowed to inspect your palace today, but your guards won't let me enter certain areas.
Kim Jong Il: Hans, Hans, Hans! We've been frew this a dozen times. I don't have any weapons of mass destwuction, OK Hans?
Hans Blix: Then let me look around, so I can ease the UN's collective mind. I'm sorry, but the UN must be firm with you. Let me in, or else.
Kim Jong Il: Or else what?
Hans Blix: Or else we will be very angry with you... and we will write you a letter, telling you how angry we are.
Kim Jong Il: OK, Hans. I'll show you. Stand to your reft.
Hans Blix: [Moves to the left]
Kim Jong Il: A rittle more.
Hans Blix: [Moves to the left again]
      Kim Jong Il: Good.
[Opens up trap, Hans falls in] [/b]

Every Major Civilization arose after it had managed to politically consolidate its Jurisdiction. Central Authority.

Central Authority brings Peace. And what would a One World Peace bring us. If the World was one great Jurisdiction, there would no longer be a risk of External Invasion. The Fall of most if not every Civilization had involved in some degree or another the detrimental influence of External Invasion. A One World Civilization would perhaps be the Strongest Civilization in History, since it would be the First Civilization to be beyond that one serious risk factor of External Invasion.

Also, look at Modern Enlightened Diplomacy... even the Experts like Henry Kissinger are still talking of the inevitable dynamics of Balance of Power Diplomacies. And what Henry says is that ultimately Balance of Power needs to be tested on the Battle Field.

So until there is a One World Politically Unified Jurisdiction, there will be Wars.

Then we need to look at the benefits of Peace. Every Great Civilization had experienced a Huge Peace Benefit.

Look at America -- A Tank, a Jet, or a Warhead for every man woman and child in America, but they can't pay for Health Care. There are millions of Defense Engineers designing and building Bombs, and everyone asks why there are not enough Doctors. If we had a World Peace -- a disarmed America and Israel, then finally we could reassign our Resources to Humanitarian and Consumer interests and appetites. Of course, tort reform to Outlaw the Lawyers would also help. People complain about taxes without considering that 40% of the Gross National Product goes to lawyers who make nothing but obstruct everything.

It brings peace untill it becomes corrupted then the people suffer and it collapses. If it can not guarantee the freedom of the people then it won't bring about peace. Unless your meaning of peace is a government that crushes all resistance and turns its population in slaves.

Sure you can have free health care, enough food to live off of and no crime but you will be watched everyday and will only be allowed to do what the goverment decides for you.

Isn't there a post about infinite mubers somewhere around here?

Power comes in numbers. If the United Nations was to work in concert with one another (As I had perceived it's original intention) the weight behind it's judgement would be very powerful. With that much power you have to be careful.
I believe that is why many countries feel animosity towards the United states.
Look at the two parties in the United states, Democrats or republicans and view how far apart they are in diplomatic reasoning. Now you add entire countries with altogether different cultures ideals and agendas. * How would you propose that it could ever work in a together like fashion.

Note too that many of these countries in the current United nations have had occurring bargaining with rogue nations making it more difficult for everyone to stand on the fence together.

To use this power. At some point, sometimes power would unfortunately have to be used to set a standard, an example. This act should IMO be used for world safety (IE > WMD) and not world domination or to change culture, religions and the like. The residual effect of accountability on a large scale would have an impact.

You will have your physco leaders who aim for world domination which may have to be dealt with by other means. But obtaining Nuclear weapons for bargaining chips is not cutting it. Sanctions often hurt the people of the nation more than anything else. Most of the problem nations cut of their own people anyhow. So they will still put any resources behind their agenda.

I did not mean to go astray from your idea of an "An Independent United Nations Army."
I just was elaborating on some of the reasons why.
altogether (No pun intended) the idea looks good on paper. I don't believe that because of all the complications it is possible

The Pax Romana was 200 years. that is 8 generations.

Catholic Civilization lasted more than twice that and was able to stave off the Mongolian Conquest that swallowed up the rest of the World.

Then we can look at China. Though China cycles faster between Consolidations and Collapses, it seems that the Chinese Cultural Familiarity with Civilization makes Civilization something of a second nature to their People. Look at their recent recovery from Bandit Communism... it has only been 50 years since Mao's Farmers ran their Bloodbaths through the Cities and now they are already the World's Largest Manufacturing Center. If they would only address some of the Chronic Problems that have put down their last 5 Dynasties -- their History is clear as a bell (The Mongols destroyed Persia but preserved China because China surrendered so completely and sincerely promised such total cooperation to the Pillagers and Rapers, that the Mongols saw it would be unnecessary work to Kill Them All, where in Persia, they seemed to ask for it, annihilation, with all of their repeated instances of sporadic resistance. the Chinese were wise enough to know that if you can't win, then surrender and minimize the damage that would be done by endless war), their literature and scrolls are all intact going back several thousand years. They have always had a problem with the Rise of Private Wealth and Concentration away from the Public Infrastructure. Perhaps if China can keep just a few Core Values of Communism, then they might have what could be the Longest Lasting Dynasty in Chinese History, and perhaps the new Center of a World Civilization.

Anyway, one can hardly dismiss all of the benefits of Civilization simply because they have tended to cycle into collapse. We should remember that in Archeological Terms Civilization is a very new invention. We have only had Civilizations for the last 7 thousand years (dated from a Clay Pot that shows that Surplus Grain was being stored) when Man has been Man for the last Million years. We are likely to get better at it if we keep trying.

Indeed, when the UFO Aliens were taken to Washington, to the Naval Department Building... and there was a Prisoner Exchange... the Aliens substituted Diplomatic Personnel for the pilots and technicians that were originally captured. They were given notebooks and asked to write about their Civilization. The Notebooks were in yellow binders and so these notebooks became known as the Yellow Books. Well, the reason they keep these Aliens so super secret is because The Civilization that works, that Auto-Sustains, that has reached a self-perpetuating stability, and a level of prosperity that can afford to explore the Stars... well that Civilization is NOT democratic, NOT capitalistic, and has no room for Free Masons and Political Lobbies. It was counter to the American Way of Life.

But it does indicate that Civilization as a lasting and stable complex of institutions is possible, and apparently so attractive that our corrupt leaders are afraid that we may all learn about it.

      Howetzer,

I understand your concern for the difficulty of arriving at a working Consolidated Jurisdiction.

But the World has seen 21 Civilizations that had all managed to arrive at complete consolidations of all the territories within their natural extents of transportation and communication -- their "Known Worlds".

Half by Conquest, and some by Application, and then some by Colonization. But it happens, and has happened repeatedly.

You see there really is a Huge Peace Dividend.

And then, you speak of Rogue Regimes. well, maybe we have a unique Historical Opportunity -- that all of the Rogues might unite in concert if they could stand collectively against the Last Super Power. The Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend.

And then the United States is only Republican Red by a merest fraction. The Blue States would certainly agree to a Cosmopolitan One World Government. No one in the Blue States is interested in Conquering the World a la Neo Conservative that are pulling the Presidents strings and making him dance to their America Ober Allus tone.

Remember, many of these Rogue Nations are crazy and acting insane only under the stress of what they perceive as a major threat. Americans find it difficult to imagine, but the World does see the Protestant-Zionist Partnership as they saw the Alliance of Italian and German Fascists in the 30's. Take away that Threat to World Peace and maybe the rogues would settle back somewhat.

That is a good point Leo.

How could this be an equal and unilateral prospect
What you are proposing would have to include some of the following I would think.
      - Would we not all have to be on a similar stage of weaponry. Which entails the trading of reconnaissance information.
      - A similar diplomatic process and military engagement.
      - A similar economic scale.

Isn't this why the United nations is a failure now? I would presume something like this would be in place if we could. But again as you stated, we can't even get past pencil pushing much less unilateral military unison.

Exactly look at china, thats a perfect example. On the surface they appear to be doing very well, but when you dig deeper that place is a hellhole of moral corruption. The government is destroying peoples homes making millions homeless, but thats just the start. What about their human farms where they have concentration camps full of people and they murder them to harvest their organs? They even brag about it, "we have great medical system here, anyone can come in and get fresh organs from young and healthy people", of course you don't want to ask how they got them. Or how about the fact they force people to get abortions if they have more than one kid, and if you don't they kill you.

Yea but there a big Manufacturing Center. Thats true. Nice to see you have your priorities straight.
