I know we've seen alot of stupid, overly skinny models on Vogue, and Cosmo etc, but this is the first time I've seen one on a HEALTH magazine.

I was farting around the grocery store today, browsing the magazines, when I noticed the cover of Fitness Rx Magazine, For Women!. I found the same image on their website: current issue cover

I couldn't believe how tiny her waist is. And, as tiny as it is in real life, I'm sure it was airbrushed to look even tinier. WHY do they do that? Seriously, I want to know. Do more people actually buy a magazine like that if the woman appears to have a 15 inch waist instead of an 18 inch waist? "Trim your waist!" it says. HA, ok well, hand me an airbrush then assholes! And it sure as hell isn't going to inspire anyone to get healthy...more like trigger anorexia. If my daughter looked like that, I might take her to the doctor, not say "My you're looking fit. You clearly work out and eat the recommended 1500-1600 calories per day."

Excuse my french but, FUCK YOU Fitness Rx Magazine.

Now I'm gonna go eat some curry.

      If you think that's bad:

Yeah, they do take it way to far on tv and in magazines though. I really don't see the point. It just doesn't look good.

Heres my thought, fashion people "think" they know what looks good, where as the average joe, e.g you or me actually prefer the human look and not some stick insect wannabe.

Look at the puniness of her arms. Absolutely no muscle whatsoever. Looks like she'd have trouble lifting a spoon to her mouth if she did decide to eat. And despite the lack of a body fat % above the single digits, her cleavage shows large very round breasts. A strange unnatural creature who deserves our pity, not our envy.

I think with a little muscle you can put a few pounds of fat and still look good, and be able to survive if you found yourself in less favorable circumstances such as shipwreck, etc. (Hey you need to think about these things! The bad times are coming&#33

Cripes! I didn't even noticed her arms before. It's like, she's a normal chic, but they airbrushed away her arms, hips, thighs and waist. I swear to god in 50 years, the models will just be disembodied heads. "If you REALLY work out hard, your body will just disappear! Then you can finally squeeze into that size -17263."

WELL...since they're airbrushing the models anyway, they can just save the image of the skull as a transparent layer so then you'll see the boobs

GOSH do I have to think of everything?!

Mean, mean, mean. Yeah, she looks way too skinny but it's very possible that she is naturally that way. Yeah, we shouldn't be promoting that look and encouraging girls to try everything possible to look like that, but it drives me crazy when people jump all over skinny people. I totally got picked on in high school for my weight and it really can be just as hateful to gripe about skinny people as it is to gripe about overweight people. I know lots of models maintain an unhealthy weight by choice, but lot's of them are naturally skinny as well.

I'm not encouraging the look, but dedicating a whole thread to this girls weight? I don't know...........

Yeah well, it was clearly airbrushed. So how ever skinny/normal she actually was in real life was intentionally exaggerated.

I have no problem with fat people or skinny people, I don't even judge someone who is anorexic because I understand that it is a disease. But to promote that look in a health magazine by purposefully manipulating the image is just sick, and warrants a good rant me thinks.

Many girls actually look like that but are still healthy without any sort of disease. People just always assume something's wrong with them or in this case that the image had to be manipulated.

I get what you're saying. It sucks if they intentionally manipulated the image and think that's the look to promote, BUT she could also just look like that. It's not that unusual.

Yeah I guess you're right, we all come in many shapes and sizes by nature. So why not show a chick who has a thicker body frame by nature, but is still healthy and works out?

I just wish these magazines would focus on a more average look, vs one extreme or another, whether or not it's how she actually looks. The idea is to promote an image that you want women to aspire to that's realistic. Overly skinny girls on magazine covers, natural or not, is a common trigger for anorexia and bulemia.

      Ugghhh, but that's another rant.

      I agree with ophelia.

It's unreasonable to put a photo of a scrawny model on the cover of a health magazine because the majority of American women aren't even close to looking like that - it's like advertising an unreachable goal. People are less inclined to diet and exercise if they think a goal is unattainable. At least put a normal weight, fit, well-toned woman on the cover - something that looks more normal.

Heh, I told my girlfriend to eat way more and exercize less and she was like, "Why?" and I was like, "More cushion for the pushin'" and then she got all made because weren't sexually active.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.
