Thread: Affirmative Action?

for all you people tragically not born in the USA, affirmative action is a policy in which a minority (often less qualified) gets a job before a white person soley based on race. Needless to say this really pisses me off.

My idea is that am employer should get a group of portfolios and choose from the list and choose. Simple as that.

It doesnt make sense to hire somebody who is less qualifies. You should choose the person most qualifies, which makes a better business.

Thoughts.

I was under the impression that affirmitive action was when two applicants were EQUALLY qualified, the job had to go to the minority. either way, its friggin bullshit.

Actually, I believe it only applies when two people of equal qualifications are vying for the same position. There used to be quotas that needed filling, but I think that was done away with because of unfairness issues.

I actually think that affirmative action is a good thing. No matter what the average white male thinks, racism still affects who gets a job and who doesn't, so it's only fair, IMO, that the playing field should be made even. That's the whole purpose of affirmative action. It's not to give minorities an advantage over majority persons, it's to give them an equal chance.

We're still ironing out the details to make sure it really is fair, but I think it's a splendid idea overall.

I actually don't think people (usually white males) who disagree with affirmative action are racist, per se, but they often have a misunderstanding of what affirmative action is actually supposed to do and why. The only advantage lost by a white male, in this situation, is the unfair advantage. It's not like white males have been placed in a position of disadvantage, actually... they just have to compete where they used to always win for unfair reasons (you're a male and you have pink skin).

You're assuming that all employers are going to look at the color of someones skin, which is false. the vast majority of employers are going to look at who will do a better job. THAT IS WHAT THEY CARE ABOUT. MONEY. And about the small amount of discrimination that does exist, well honestly, if a white man gets a job over a black man when they are equally qualified, simply because he is white, guess what, maybe the black man should just give himself an advantage by becoming MORE QUALIFIED. instead of crying to the damn government, why not just simply do everything in your power to make yourself look better. that, in my opinion, is a splendid idea.

I have personally seen instances where a less qualifies black got a job over my white friend. My friend went crazy and the employer and the black guy. Now he's serving 25 to life.

In Mississippi, lots of luck getting a state job if you are white. If you are a white person with a family to feed and want a state job, save yourself a lot of time and effort by taking your fishing pole to the pond. Government enforced racism is flat out despiccable.

If anybody wants to come at me on that with something about how my "people" owned slaves, let me go ahead and tell you that my "people" were living in Ireland after slavery ended, except for the ones that were Native Americans. Also, I am not responsible even for what my parents do, much less my great great whatever grandparents that I never even met did. And even if I were, I don't owe anything to people who have never even met a slave.

I think people should be judged by the content of their character, and qualifications in the case of employees, not the color of their skin. Employers consider a whole lot other than educational and work histories, which are diminished when they result from affirmative action. So it should be up to the employer to decide who is more qualified, not the getevenwiththemists.

I find it hard to believe that black people are so incredably unqualified to do well paid jobs, like in the USA. They allso suck extremely much in being in politics, I guess that I why they hardly are in them.

And yes, I am going to call your racist. I do not allways agree with positive-discrimination, but it is less fair then how good ol' america handeled things in the 50's.

And it was white people who were discriminating against black people in the 50's, so you owe all black people because races are not composed of individuals. I guess I could complain about you for bring up totally unrelated topics, but I am not a pussy, like you are.

And as I have said before, sometimes benefiting a race that is being discriminated by society (like black people in america) kind of makes it a bit more even. Really you can't deny that black people have equal chances in america, try to hold a cab if you are black.

The land-stealing was bad. Yet it happend. All good that can be done now is to make sure everyone gets treated equally and gets equal rights. Black people do not have equal chances, I can give you that.

The actions you call racist are done from a non-racistic-ideology. They are trying to make things even for the people there were and still are being discriminated. And the most qualified should get the job, for that is best for the economy. However in america that doens't happen as fast, if you are black. OMG!!!

In the time Allies attacked Normandy, the Russians were already pushing the Germans back. The Germans stood no chance in Russia because of winter and lack of winter clothing and supplies. Here is some reading for you. You sure need it. http://www.onwar.com/maps/wwii/eastfront2/index.htm

Germany fucked itself over. They tried to attack Stalingrad in the middle of the winter. The Russians were prepared and the Germans were not. They left. They werent "pushed back" in the leteral sense of the phrase. Russia was never really on offence until the Normandy invasion.
