Media is the only thing we know. It is basically our only source to the outside world, and we tend to trust the media. This is dangerous. This leads to brainwashing. We are all brainwashed.

Needless to say i hate the media.

In America, our news is selective. What happens when a young black girl goes missing? Nothing. What happens when white girls go missing? It is on the news 24/7, and agencies are investigating in other countries. Remember the Elizabeth Smart (i think that was her name) story? That crap happens every day, but nobody cares.

News medias ruin people's lives. They repeat unconfirmed information on live news channels, which gives bad names to good people. They stick cameras and microphones into the faces of crime victims.

I know media is an absolute necessity, and in America it is a guaranteed right. But shouldnt they have rules? Are they maggots? just post thoughts about the media, good or bad.

      I agree.
How fucked media, but primarily people, really is/are you notice when you see what kind of new TV shows are being invented: MTV Real Life, Big Brother etc.
People have no claims in life no more .. by sitting in front of the TV they don't even notice how they get manipulated - and that's not a national problem ... governments and media are one - in order to fuck with the people - in order to make people believe what is for the governments most advantage.
I think that's a pretty obvious thing - acutally - it makes me pretty sick when watching TV .. except for the discovery and national geographic channel - everything is bullcrap (who knows if even they are not lieing when docuing about 9/11 or some other interest-conflict).
This is why I like the internet so much .. everybody has the option to offer his/her opinion, and you can compare - not just within nationality, but on international basis.
.. but in the end, you know .. you can never be sure how things really went on - how true it really is what they are telling you on the net, radio or tv ...

Looking at it from distance, taking media as a source of information without judgement .. but judge yourself as far as you can .. as far as you are influenced by whatever you heard..

I think there isn't a single country in the world with objective media, often it seems certain things are just ignored. I think I am pretty lucky for living in the netherlands, the news here seems to be pretty ok most of the time.

But man, in America. Fox isn't media, Fox news is republican propaganda. Incredible how much they twist the news and even hire 'experts' that turn out to be actors or something.

Such bad media also one of america's greater problems. Especially since bad media keeps the public stupid. If more people knew the Facts about Iraq and it's ties to 9/11 and if they knew about what the WMD-reports said, then maybe the american people would have stand up against it power-tripping war-starting government.

Neruo, I think we as europeans always think everything happening here (reports of media of any kind) is more true - closer to reality than in america and north korea etc ..... but you know, that just shows how much they already fucked with us.
I at least wouldn't try to defend german media ....

Who fucked with us? Do you mean that bad influences of not telling the truth is effecting us too? Well yeah, likely. European media still if far from perfect. Things will always get blown up too, aslong as retards like to read about one sad little kid that lives in their country while millions od little kids starve in africa.

I agree that the media is ridiculous in many ways. It really is disgusting how a hundred pregnant women get killed in American ghettoes in a short time, but as soon as a successful white guy kills his pregnant woman, it is treated like some major world news story. Rapes, kidnappings, and murders of non-celebrities are way too common for it to make sense to take just one of them and treat it like the biggest news story there is. Fox News will dedicate half of a show to talking about World War III in the Middle East and the other half to Scott Peterson. That is stupid!!! They also do sick things like stick microphones in the faces of victims and seduce victims' family members into interviews the DAY OF the tragedy.

I don't at all believe that the media in the United States has the government behind it. That would involve coercion, and there is no way that has been happening all this time without a single believable leak. That would be way too insane. The media in the United States is all about money. It is all about capitalism. They are not going to just roll over and let the government get in the way of that. That is as free from government as it gets. Most news stories have a political slant, most of them liberal, but it is really hard to get away with flat out lying. Look at what happened to Dan Rather. But what the maggots will do is leave out important stuff. Have any of you ever seen the video footage of Rodney King running at the L.A. cops and attacking them? I have never seen it a single time. But on about a hundred occasions I definitely saw footage of the police beating Rodney King. Showing the whole video would have prevented the L.A. riots because every single one of those rioters could relate to beating up somebody who attacks them, especially when the perpetrator won't stay down. Fox News shows a whole lot of things that the other news networks won't show. I know that for a fact. In summary, the American news media doesn't lie because the competition is too strong for anybody to get away with it. The American news media just keeps some things unreported and spins and slants what it does report. I don't know the first thing about the Netherlands news media. I don't know who would other than people who live there.

Here's the fatal flaw in all of your anti-media setiments.

What is broadcast and written is dictated by ratings and sales.

The media giants display whatever it is that we like to see. If more people tune into stories involving murdered white children and celebrity sex scandals then that's what they're gonna keep showing!

People complain because news is so negative, "All CNN does is scare the hell out of people...war, terrorism, disease, infection...". It's because that's when people tune in the most!!! No one wants to watch a story about how a firefighter saved a cat from a tree. But if they did, you can bet your ass that that's what CNN would broadcast.

People (Americans especially, in my experience) LOVE to blame their problems on the faceless, abstract and inanimate, "McDonald's made me fat!", "Video games are responsible for all the violence!", "Media has no shame! It's creating all the problems!".

Biased and shameless media is NOT the problem. It's a symptom of the general lazy and distracted attitude of us all. So before you start going postal on Wolf Blitzer's ass, take a look in the mirror.

Mainly the very people ruin their lives watching and believing all this crap. Who is forcing you into sitting brfore TV and getting excited about politics, quarrels, tragedies...? Give it up and look something creative like Discovery Channel.
      I'm tired being sorry.

Ironically, I just read this article in my newspaper, something that probably isn't in American newspapers: an article about press freedom in all the countries of the world. A huge yearly global independent research.

      Results that matter:

Netherlands (my country!), Ireland, Iceland and Finland share the first place.

America... on a shameful 53th place in the world. Also around that place are Kroatia, Botswana and Tonga.

Not at bad as north-Korea, they were all at the bottom of the list, and not wonder. Russia also did bad, at the 147th place.

Rather intresting to know all this. I didn't expect my country to be way on top of the list. Yet I expected America to be that low. Yay, thanks fox news for that!

I was reading in my psychology book about gender something and it was talking about ever since kids are young they watch TV. And the commercials come on all the guys are playing with ninja turtles and girls are putting on false make up toys or something. And it said that it brainwashed girls into only liking certain toys and guy only wanting to play with violent things.

But this topic seems to be more on the news so, yes people like suffering so that’s what they are going to put on the news. People like celebrities so that’s what is going to be on the news. That's why reality shows have survived for so long, people want to see people suffering to say 'Aw poor thing' and make themselves feel like a good person for useless silent sympathy, or to watch some girl acting like a total brat to say 'I'm much more polite than that girl!' and to make themselves feel like they actually improved themselves.

This is why I like the internet so much .. everybody has the option to offer his/her opinion, and you can compare - not just within nationality, but on international basis.[/b]
Also on the Internet you can actually read the news you want to read without waiting until they are done with some American Idol interview.

In America, our news is selective. What happens when a young black girl goes missing? Nothing. What happens when white girls go missing? It is on the news 24/7, and agencies are investigating in other countries. Remember the Elizabeth Smart (i think that was her name) story? That crap happens every day, but nobody cares.[/b]
Actually only pretty blonde white girls.
