I have always wondered why politicians never act like real people. You know what i\'m talking about. They never actually speak their mind to us. They just tell us what they think we want to hear so they can get elected. Does anybody honestly believe that a rich, white politician gives a crap about poor people and welfare? He\'s just trying to get elected.

This pattern of dodging topics sticks with politicians long after the election race. Just look at President Bush. Why doesnt he just say \"Everybody, BACK OFF. I have a plan to defeat terrorism, but i cant just tell it to you so LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!\" If i were the pres., i would do that. (please dont rant on this thread about how the pres. doesnt have a plan)

So i have 2 questions. The first is, why do politicians treat us like a parent treats their 4 year old? Do they think we are somehow lesser beings?

The second, are politicians all over the world like this? Just in a democracy?

Look, i know politicians have to be secretive about their plans and intel., especially with our communicative abilities. But shouldnt there be a limit to how much they can do that?

If it were up to me, i would make it ILLEGAL to make heafty promises, get elected, and just blatently ignore those promises. Maybe then politicians would act a little more like real people than, well......politicians.

A leaders job is to be a rock for the people, he cant afford to be an ordinery human, and cant afford to let you see them as infirior to you.

Granted, you cant expect to find many good polititions now days, but there are some, some who care about other people, and will do what is right for them.

And its not just america. Power corrupts, and power draws the corrupt as well.

and i think america screwed up with our idea of what a politician should be. The common American believes that you elect politicians so they can do all the work and make all the laws for you. The average American wants nothing to do with the way this country is run. But that is not democracy. We are supposed to elect people who will listen to us when we demand things. Unfortunately, once the election is over, it is out of our hands.

That question makes me think of
      - politicians using their status to achieve greater goals for their own advantage - just because of human qualities (selfishness ..)
      - politicians not being able to keep an overview and a distant view to their program, to the one of the other parties - and try to relate it to the little man down in society
      - politicians being pressured to something .... and that's probably the most common cause for them not keeping it real, because they just can't. First of all it's impossible to find even a middleway for millions of people, secondly their ideas - that aren't bad all the time - won't get realized because of some instance that possesses more power for whatever reason - like they were a judge with higher knowledge - like they would already know the solution .. dumb. Or they just see how they have no influence on anything, everything gets compromised, no clear and true way, just a little bit of it all - that'll lead to not a whole lot. So they already know stuff in their program won't get realized as they present it to the people. Bureaucrazy holds them back, even people in higher positions they don't want to get into problems with (losing job ..) and what not ...
This is why politics is pointless to think about in the first place ..

They give the people what the want. Rhetoric.
We the people are the ones who continue to vote the incumbents into office, again, again and again.

How many people vote a straight ticket? = Stupid.
How many people don't vote = Stupid
How many people are swayed by political advertising? = A lot. Otherwise they would not spend millions on it. = Stupid.

People need to get involved and educated. Even more over in their local offices.

It should be taught in schools, but I guess the politicians that get elected because of ignorance dont want that so it never happens

If a politican told you the straight truth, not only would rival countries know where to hit (and these countries might not subscribe to the 'keeping it real' ideology), but, you know, there's a lot of people - a lot of voters, ha ha - who can't deal with the truth or just don't get it.
