      Pj and I were discussing other Forums that discuss politics in an other thread. I was straying off the topic so I started this one.

      Anyone now of any Forums that discuss politics?

      <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE("pj")</div>
      Depends on your leanings. I WISH there was a good pol forum out there that was inclusive of all political viewpoints without the hatred, sniping and bickering. If anybody finds one, please let me know&#33;
      In the meantime, good places to monitor include freerepublic.com , dailykos.com, littlegreenfootballs.com , and many other excellently connected and written blogs.

      I&#39;ve yet to find a political "home" where intelligent political discussion takes place. That is perhaps because of the nature of politics itself - and that combining "intelligent" and "political" in the same sentence is an oxymoron.

      Damn. I know you are right. But doesn&#39;t it seem possible?
      I tried to hold a debate night rather than the usual stupid ass game night. I thought we could have a bunch of cool topics and discussions.
      But people can&#39;t disconnect from their feelings and think on a more logical plain.
      I guess that is part of it. Emotions bring then to their conclusions. Thanks for the links&#33;
      eeeh I could go on but I am straying ---

      Well now I am not 8)

      I know people derive their political positions from their emotional feelings.
      Just like Judges or politicians are suppose d to keep them separate. It just does not happen.
      But politics is the science or art of political government. It could be talked about in a more intelligent and more structure and organized manner.

      Maybe this is a pipe dream.

      I am not into the gaming scene in the least bit. To be honest I have played some dinosaur game ..Turak? several years ago. And that is all.
      I have scene how indepth the games have become. Like real stories.
      I have heard of this political game. I believe it is an online game. I don&#39;t know. There is the whole role playing bit and all.
      Any one know what the H I am talking about?

      I really think it is a pipe dream. Every pol forum I have ever been involved in - and any forum that has opened itself to political discussion - ends up being taken by one group or another that drums out most of the others. The forum then becomes a political TOOL... another platform for whatever victorious group to use to spout their rhetoric.

      Politics is so like religion it is almost indistinguishable. People who hold certain political beliefs often consider different points of view personal attacks. There is a clear belief system involved. Questioning it shakes the foundations of people&#39;s worlds.

      There are a handful of folk here I would LOVE to engage in political discourse with... but as always, those few political discussions I&#39;ve stuck my nose into here have turned into the usual personal attacks, blind adherence to party line rhetoric and worse. So I try real hard to avoid them or at least get out when things turn that way. It&#39;s just not worth it.

      FWIW... I have several servers and have attempted to run a political forum on my own in the past. My conclusion is pretty well contained above. Without having an "invitation only" forum with a signed agreement as to behavior expectations and rigid moderation, it seems it just can&#39;t be done. Of course, all that throws a big wet blanket on any hopes of good discourse&#33;

      I suppose you are right.
      I never did go on to say how our debate night went.
      Well we are not having any more if that is one clue.

      I had each person pick five categories to discuss. Out of a hat we pulled a random topic for everyone to engage in.
      a few of the people were so emotionally charged and conditioned in their stance, that as an observer I could see their views going down hill, while the opposers more credible line of thought became evident.
      I wished I had taped it. The individual got so frustrated that his stance was so illogical that it was saddening in a way. But he would not let go. That is until he decided to leave.

      Yeah it&#39;s amazing how heated political discussions can be. I took two politics courses at university this year and had one tutorial discussion per week for both of them. I think that in a guided form, political discussions can be objective, and I was quite surprised at how calm the discussions we had were. I guess I was lucky to be in tutorials that didn&#39;t have overly dominating and emotional people, because it only takes a couple like that to ruin the whole thing for everyone and descend into bickering.

      I think the reason why people become so emotional about politics is because politics is what governs our lives, and it affects us greatly.

      I agree roller.
      With emotions it is kind of screwed up. We have so many and they can be a very good guide and tool to be used for decision making.
      On the other hand many times emotions get in the way of reason.

      There are so many topics that just have no absolute answer (to everyone) like abortion, gay rights, and things of that nature.
      I have not witnessed too many persuasive arguments that change peoples minds on human rights issues.

      Why dont you make a section i nthis forum dedicated to politics.
      I was on a forum a looong tym a go tht did that and it worked okay
      the noly problem is, things like lucid dreaming seem to attract the same sort of people
      so views might not be that varied, but cosnidering the amount of people registered here that actually shouldnt be a problem
      I thinkits worth a try,
      I as gonna start a thread on Zionism and the legitimacy of the state of israel, but felt it might get too heated and lead to arguments. As it seems there arent any real political threads on here.

      Actually if you look there are quite a few topics in this Forum concerning politics.
      I don&#39;t think that icedawg wants to subcategorize too much and stray from the main topic. What the site is all about, lucid dreaming.
      With the philosophy and extended discussion Forums in place, it encompasses pretty much anything you would wish to talk about.
      What seems to be a big issue in the political topics that I have seen, is that the wide range of members brings with it a wide range of governments and lack of knowledge towards each others policies.

      Cool.

      Most likely it will get heated. But that is politics.
      Anyone that acts rude and immature you just have to take with a grain of salt.

      Playing politics.
      My couple of friends that have tried to get me into online gaming, such as Halo I & II would be appalled that this would be the first one I would find of interest.
