Sure, there are always odd proposals put forward, but in the last few months, many somewhat insane proposals have been put forward, and some have come into action. For example, prison waiting-lists, which quickly changed into public prisoncells in large shopping stores, somewhat reminiscent of medieval stocks. For those who thought they were safe, since they're crime-resistant would be interested to know that any students not going on to further education could be fined for not continuing their education. A very controversial recent act that was passed very quietly was one banning public performance of music and dance without a permit; anyone not carrying one can be fined £20,000. Not only does this seem a very aggressive way of controlling what kind of music and dance the public is subject to, but makes the problem of homeless people bringing in money even more difficult, since I know the poor guy with the harmonica in the underpass near me sure as hell isnt going to be able to afford a license to continue making his £5 a day or whatever.

Along side the introduction of this database of everyone in the country, radio-emitting passports, compulsory ID cards, etc. the country is looking to be more totalitarian than possibly imaginable. No doubt, the stupid restricting laws will continue to come pouring in. Post any others you come across

Can you provide any links to back up these laws actually existing? It just sounds a bit far fetched to me.

Haven't heard about this, but I'll hunt around for stuff and comment

There was talk a little while ago about extending the compulsory education age from 16 to 18
Ie. making A-levels compulsory
this is nothing to do with universities, however
Universities cannot take everyone in the country
it's logistically impossible

This one got a lot of press....
it was a poorly thought out idea
and Abbey Studios kicked up a fuss about it
as they have a "viewing gallery" in the studio that allowed members of the public to watch recording sessions
it was deemed to be a public performance and so the studio needed this new permit
they refused
press got involved, and idea dropped

A lot of these "Acts" are not acts at all
it's MP's and community leaders proposing new ideas, etc.
for talk in the commons
and they get shot down within a week
(particularly if they get blasted in the papers)

Yeah, the prison and student fining ones were in the independent or similar newspaper just a couple of days ago (saturday I guess). I know some are only proposals at the moment, but from what I read, and going by the petition asking for it to be revoked or whatever, still on the government's petition site thing, I guessed it was still up and running!

While looking for the proposals, I came across this, just as a sidenote http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main...2/24/nid24.xml

God I hate the British government, anything to get money out of us. The only solution to problems these days seems to be adding tax to everything or making hefty fines

I heard there's a new thing coming out where you are taxed on what you own as well, like you will have higher taxes if you have wooden floors over carpet, or central heating over no central heating.

Also there's the whole idea about cars being fitted with a device and you have to pay £1 a mile.

Yeah UK is really getting all 'V for Vendetta' on everyones asses lately, turning somewhat to something more totalistic Did you know there is 1 CCTV camera for every 11 people in Britain. Pretty sick if you ask me.

Oh noes! But seriously, bad stuff.
