California has a lot of bigotry shrouded underneath a veil of liberal politics. You'd be surprised how bad it is. |

California, which is supposed to be the most progressive state in the union, has a proposition to abolish gay marriage It's called Proposition 8 and many many people and companies have started a campaign against it. How did something like that even get onto the ticket in California? |

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

Still can't WILD........
YOU GOD DAMMED HILLBILLIES! How the fuck did a gay marriage ban pass in California? Bigotry has no place in our law system. The CA supreme court better shoot that shit down fast. |

Watch them not. |

I have been asking that question all day. |

How do you know you are not dreaming right now?
That's what I said in my first post. |

My mom and brother actually cheered when they heard the news. |

Yep. And they frustrate me just as much. The line between liberalism and conservatism has gotten pretty blurry. I usually laugh at conspiracy theories, but I am seriously considering the possibility that the Democratic and Republicans parties are one big organization trying to pass itself off as two parties. Democrats are now pushing for radio censorhip and Republicans are now crying for free speech, Republicans support a hundred million government programs, the Republican Congress didn't do shit when they had a Republican president, Democrats in the government support the war on drugs, John Kerry and George W. Bush were in the same secret society at Yale at the same time... |

My only hope is that the huge gay population in California sues and it goes back to the CA supreme court. Just like last time, the CA supreme court will take it down. |
|
I did, I swore a lot, I didn't care. It offended me so deeply I couldn't help myself. |
|
I hope people understand gay marriage is more than a title. The reason it should be there is so gay couples have the same rights of kinship and tax breaks as heterosexual couples do. This is nothing but discrimination. |
|
on the flip side, I think it was great that some religious groups actually apposed this |
|
This proposition was not backed up by logic or reason, but primarily by religious and political propaganda, as well as deception at levels that made me infuriated. My family was not informed of the truth and implications behind the bill, and their bigotry and hatred upset me beyond belief. Schools can still talk about homosexuality, regardless of this bill passing, and if you aren't already aware of this, some interest groups are aiming for preventing non-married couples from adopting. Sounds like a series of laws trying to be passed to smother the homosexual lifestyle, which is ridiculous and hateful. I could hardly reason with my family, and I warned them that, should the proposition pass, people for equal rights for homosexuals would protest. Yesterday, we saw on the news a quick excerpt on such protests actually happening, and to my shock my brother-in-law shouted a string of expletives at how stupid they were for doing such a thing as fighting for equality. It's unfortunate that the radical religious community is desperately trying to delay what is inevitable, and will be wasted tax-payers' money that we don't have to spare on hateful bills and propositions that will just be overturned in courts sooner or later. But it's also very very unfortunate that some of us (like me and Elis D.) actually live with these kind of people. |
|
Arkansas, Arizona and Florida also passed laws discriminating homosexuals. I am so ashamed of Cali, though. |

^ I really hate republicans like that that give us logical ones a bad name. My oldest brother is gay, but he is still republican because he believes in small government and so on...however, Im really ashamed at the state of the republican party and even more ashamed that so many people can still think this way in 2008 |

I really wonder how much more support the Republican Party would get if they would stop trying to cram their religion into the government. It is the one thing that really screws up the logic of their platform. Without theocratic tendencies, Republicans are pretty much Libertarians. I wonder how many liberals would stop hating Republicans so much if the Republicans in general started supporting complete separation of church and state. |

How do you know you are not dreaming right now?
Judging by where the republican vote is, I'd say that the majority of them would start a new party if they took the christianity out of their platform. |
|
IF all Republicans took Christianity out of their stances, do you think the party would be a lot less hated? Would the large mass of vile hatred toward Republicans become civil disagreement? |
|
How do you know you are not dreaming right now?
Their history with foreign policy and economics is terrible, but it's not why people hate them. People hate them because liberals are very passionate about civil rights (within reason, NAMBLA can go to hell) and republicans have been on the wrong side of civil rights very single time with the exception of the very early days of the party. |

Thanks. That is very informative, and it is what I figured. It is very frustrating for me that the issues I disagree with Republicans on are the ones that make them so hated. It makes me want to bitch slap all of them repeatedly because the instances where they are SUCH morons are what too often ruin their support on the issues where I agree with them. That is not to say that people don't oppose their economics and foreign policy for other reasons. I just think their economics and foreign policy would have more ears listening if they weren't such infuriating knuckleheads on social issues. |
