Thread: The world cannot support happiness

I was thinking today about all the starving children in Africa when I threw away my school lunch which I never bother eating... My train of thought started on how everyone in the world should be given certain things(such as water) as it seemed like a basic right that living things should be entitled to.

That's when I realized the things that bring a great majoirity of happiness in developed countries couldn't support every person in the world, namely energy consumption(cars, computers, televisions). The world has a heirarchy that won't be evened out soon. If we divided our industrial/technological happiness among everyone, none would be left to amount to much.

The fact is there's too many people in the world.

Tis true, there are far too many people in the world to even out the distribution of technology and resources, at least any time soon. Though if a few technological advances came in rapid succession then I believe we could find ways to reduce the amount of materials and energy required for devices and make them available to everyone, and also new ways of food production and water purification. Looking back at the past hundred years it seems quite likely such technological advances could could develop in a relatively short time.

I have noticed the trend even in this country of the middle class being cut out. My family will discuss this phenomenon extensively. The idea of a hirearchy seems to be gaining more prominence now. College is one major factor of this. With a higher education (or athletic talent) you can still afford the kind of life the middle class use to enjoy. However there is becoming a wider and wider gap between educated and uneducated and it is going to leave an awful lot of people behind if we dont do something.

edit: then again, isnt that one of the major reasons to heavily consider terraforming the moon and/or Mars? So that there doesnt have to be some kind of death toll to keep the rest of the population happy. lulz, my spell checker says that the word terraforming is not real, only terraform.
