Thread: Internet Piracy

My pirate crew is composed of 3 others ninjas. The ninja in us makes up for the lack of sheer manpower.

That's a good video. It reminded me of something random I thought of, which is that copyright fails in its purpose with respect to free software. The goal of copyright is to compensate intellectual work creators for their contributions to culture, but it does nothing for those who wish to write free software (or open source, if you like) - and free software is arguably a greater contribution to society.

So, er... yeah.

if I were a recording artist, producer, etc. ~ I would do everything within my power to fight piracy so that I could gain maximum profits.

but I'm not one of those people....therefore I'm on the other side of the war, SO.....I enjoy downloading free media.

agreed, and once they are famous, they're going to do a 180 and say that pirating is very, very, very wrong.

Like all black markets, file sharing adds efficiency to a medium of distribution where authorized channels are inadequate or wholly absent. Should the media companies ever match the standards of quality and convenience set by a fourteen-year-old kid with a DVR and broadband, file sharing will die back considerably.

For me, it's not about cost so much as convenience and satisfaction: I try to pay for on-demand media, and have paid for considerable quantities and/or used legally streamed media, but inevitably the official channels prove too cludgy, they're deliberately hobbled to serve a marketing strategy, or they're just lower quality than the amateur files I can have in a matter of minutes.

Some of these companies are starting to come out of siege mode and make some half-bright moves for online distribution, but it's very piecemeal. If file-sharers are the only ones with a vision for the future, then our future wins by default.

I haven't read all but what I do know is that record company doesn't suffer at all. Infact if I heard right 2008 was 1 of the most succesful year ever. This is becouse people download more people will go watch concert and cinema.
The companys lies becosue they are greedy and little knowledge.
Even small music makers can put they work there to get fame.

Stop paying millions for acters too...
