My chronic seasonal allergies... to dogwood, dust and grass. The ones I just tested positive for last month.
And what are the symptoms of those allergies..?
Stuffy nose, sore throat, itchy eyes, throat, nose. Which is what I have but this is getting progressively worse over the past day or two. Which is abnormal.
You said you felt sick..? Is it the correct season? I don't see why you can't just visit your doctor. Or do you have to pay for consultations in the US?
Yes, because we aren't communist bastards. (Just kidding.) Yes, a doctor's visit would prove very expensive.
And, yes, it is the correct season for my allergies. And allergies and sick feel the same to me at first, until the sickness kicks in fully.
I got the 6 month cough. :( 11 people in my province have got the swine flu. It's a cat 5 in USA lol..why? people being paranoid.
A 6 month cough?
A 6 month cough? Lmfao... I smoke like a chimney and never had a cough last longer than a week. You MIGHT want to get that shit checked.
Some people here have a cough that can last up to 6 months, it never goes away, even when getting checked out the doctors say there is nothing they can do. Lots of people here have had this. I call it the 6 month cough, because how long it can take to get rid of. I've had this cough for nearly 2 weeks. I drink tons of cough medicine too.
My hubby thinks this particular strain was grown in a lab because it contains swine flu from both Asian pigs and Mexican (or American- can't recall).
He doesn't think this one will be the killer though. He thinks it will mingle with an avian flu and really start causing widespread destruction then.
I've not been following the stories as closely as he has been, but he says FEMA has concentration camps already in place for massive quarintines and that it will eventually reach the point that people will either take a vaccine or be shot dead on the spot.
???
I admit, he's a little extreme in his views at times... but it's scary to think about.
 Lord Bennington and LucidFlanders. Hope you both get feeling better very soon.
Everyone better start wearing surgical masks in public!!

Constantly Updated Map of the Swine Flu's Spread
"Swine flu" = confirmed cases of the virus
"Influenza" = reported cases of influenza that have not been investigated and could be swine flu
"Respiratory Illness" = reported cases of unknown "respiratory illness," may possibly be swine flu as well
Even if you uncheck all but "Swine flu," so that only confirmed cases are being shown, it's still enough of a presence to unsettle me a bit. This is spreading too quickly. If this thing mutates and becomes more deadly, we may be in for a hell of a lot of trouble.
...
We have two drugs that work against it (oseltamivir, marketed as Tamiflu, and zanamivir, marketed as Relenza).
Scientists are worried that it could mutate to be unaffected by these, as their widespread use against the virus will select for resistant strains. One health official has stated that if the virus is not contained by summer, the chances of resistant mutation will be much higher.
Two drugs that should work against it, amantadine and rimantadine (which work against all other known influenza strains), don't. It is already resistent to them.
Recent reports indicate that the virus has already mutated. Not too long ago, diarrhea was not caused by the virus. Now, reports of infected getting diarrhea have started to come in, with increasing frequency. The virus is already causing symptoms that it originally did not.
What will the next mutation be? Scientists can only guess...
A vaccine is in development, but it is about six months away, and wouldn't be any help if the majority of humanity is already infected by then (or dead).
Experts around the world have already spoken up to say that at this point, containment is not an option. The virus is already too wide-spread. Now all countries can do is focus on mitigating the effects of the virus.
There are confirmed cases in fourteen countries, and suspected cases in more than forty.
Help... :paranoid:
(Btw I retract my earlier post upon further consideration, it was just the result of a temporary flaring up of my nature-loving side getting a little too carried away. :P)
EDIT:
Holy shit.
1247 confirmed cases, and 1118 unconfirmed.
That's a lot of swine flu. And that's a lot more than there were when I checked merely two days ago.
I'm trying to stay on the positive side and think that it might just pass like SARS, Bird Flu, West Nile or Mad Cow Disease, but, anything can happen. I think the only way to get it under control is to do what Mexico has done and get everyone in their homes for a couple of days. Since you are at home, if you start having symptoms, you can visit the hospital, but, there will be less chances of passing it to someone else other than your family compared to being outside on a bus for example and passing it to the passengers there :P
Surgical masks do nothing. I read an article that pointed out when you see doctors wearing masks while in surgery, it's not to keep the patient from infecting the doctor, but for the doctor to not infect the patient.
Someone here might have pointed that out as well.
People working with serious contagions wear hazmat suits.
*great*.. I have severe diarrhea. I wrote it off as eating too many chocolate covered prunes yesterday lol And I *always* have allergy type symptoms- stuffed nose, earache, sore throat, postnasal drip etc.
I'm not seriously concerned at this point, seeing how I live in the middle of nowhere in West Virginia and no reported cases thus far.
**Edit**
I just looked at the Updated map and I thought there had been case reported in West Virginia because a blip showed up. But when I read the details, I saw that there truly hasn't been any cases in this state... the officials just have a plan.
So, don't get scared by all the colors on the map. It might not ALL be illnesses that are showing up...
The flu shots don't do anything. There's no point getting them even if you have the swine flu. Honestly, why the fuck would you take it? It's like the cough & cold and flu 'medications' (the shit tablets with ephedrine in them and whatnot that just suppress immune response) have been sold out at pharmacies. How do people think this is going to protect them?
Get some knowledge. Flu shots do nothing. Stop worrying, because you can't do anything to stop it.
And I agree with the nature fighting back thing. Of course it's not concious (afawk) but it does fight back, so to speak. For instance, overpopulation means there will be crappier hygiene which means disease spreads quicker. Or food and or water runs out.
And no I'm not saying kill people timothy, I'm saying let the virus kill people. Of course I wouldn't want my family dead or me. That's not being hypocritical, just human. I can want widespread deaths without wanting me to die you know, they don't contradict each other. Just like you can want yourself to have ice-cream but no one else.
It would be good if there was a virus that was aimed at all the bad people only. But there isn't.
Once it starts killing about 30 people in America, I'll be worried.

Oh, and also, a bunch of people in here were talking about Pandemic II...
That game rocks and is appropriate for this thread, so without further ado, I bring you a link to the highly-addicting, time-wasting...
Pandemic II
I've beaten it. Without starting on Madagascar. So yes, it's hard, but doable. :meditate:
