Your son can get a circumcision when he's older if he wants it. Who are you to decide that a piece of his penis should be cut off? How dare you presume to have that kind of authority.

      cut v. uncut

I'm a noob and I feel odd that my second post is on this thread, but it is important to me.

I was circumscised and I am happy with mine. However, I chose NOT to have my son circumscised. My reasons for choosing not to:

      1. I think it is a bad idea to inflict unnecessary pain on a child. The fact that he would not consciously remember it does not mean that the scar would not be buried somewhere deep in his unconscious. I didn't like the idea of having one of his earliest associations with his genitals being severe pain - especially because there did not seem to be any good reason for it.

      2. I am a big believer in individual sovereignty. It is your body, you should be able to do what you want with it and nobody else should be able to do otherwise. Of course as a parent, there are some choices you must make for your child because they cannot wait until the child is an adult. But circumscision isn't one of them. The child can always do it later. Can they reverse it? Maybe. Partially. Clearly being circumscised later is far easier then being "uncircumscised" later.

I chose to leave him uncut and am happy with that decision. But I do have some concerns. The first is the possiblity that he will not be as attractive to his partners. The second is that he will be more susceptible to disease. I think those are both matters to consider, BUT neither one becomes an issue until the boy is old enough to make his own decision.

So I guess I would make the same decision were he born today.
