      Belly fat

I have a gut the size of Jupiter. How do I get rid of it with minimal dietary changes? I'm willing to do any reasonable amount of exercise and cut out snacks and soda, but the real food in my meals has to stay. Vegetables suck cock.

Someone suggested that I try crunches combined with weightlifting and a thousand calories on the elliptical machine. Should this work?

Just eat meat, ditch alcohol and analgesics that must be processed by the liver e.g. paracetamol.

Exercise if you want to improve tone or fitness, but not to lose weight. Exercise increases appetite, especially aerobic exercise. Your gut should be gone in 6-10 weeks.

I had a bit of a belly. Although it sounds simple, only eat when you are hungry. Not when you are bored or just because someone else with you is eating. Also, make sure you stop eating when you are satisfied, don't wait until you get full. I'm no expert, but thats what worked for me.

Follow the old adage: "Eat less, more often."

Instead of eating 3 meals a day (if that's what you eat), break it down to 5-6 smaller meals a day. This speeds up your metabolism, so that you don't store fat as easily.

Also, exercise is important, but you're not looking for strength training (which is what crunches are). You're looking for calorie-burning exercise; running, swimming, biking, walking, dancing, etc. Do at least 30 mins of that kind of exercise a day, and keep your food portion size down, and you will start losing weight around your midsection.

A good weight training regiment with a bit of cardio will work best. Your muscles burn calories, so when your muscles get bigger, they burn more.

Cardio is the best bet to cut down fat around your tum-tum. Crunches, situps and such are more geared to building muscle mass and toning, not so much burning away those layers of fat but it will help if you do both.

And Oneironaut is right about eating less more often.

So GL to both you and me with our flat tummy goals.

My two cents: from what I hear, there's no such thing as spot weight training.

There is such thing as spot weight training. There is just no such thing as spot weight-loss training. That is to say, that you can spot-train certain muscles to develop, but when it comes to trying to lose weight/burn-fat in a certain area, you can't. Your body burns fat all over, simultaneously.

Hm, the way I lost 10 lbs. in the last 2 months was by jogging every night and drinking a lot of water.

Truth be told, you can lose massive amounts of weight by drinking 2 gallons of water a day in addition to normal exercising. Last I heard, a group of people that did this lost 8 lbs. a piece per week.

If you wanna cut the two main things you need to watch are diet and cardio.

You have to get the right amount of type A foods (whole grains, complex carbs, lean meats, seeds, etc.) at each meal and the right caloric intake per day for you. I'm on a plan right now where I try to get around 50-60g carbs, 35-40g protein and 12g fat each meal (5'10" 185lb 12%bf male). You should eat at about 300 calories lower than your needed caloric intake for 2-3 days then eat your normal caloric intake for 1-2 days. This will burn fat without resetting your metabolism.

For cardio you need to do it. If you wanna stay in your house and don't have a treadmill or anything you could try this. Go to your stairs, step up one foot at a time then step down one foot at a time. Gradually increase speed until you're at a sprint then go back down at the same rate you went up. Your cardio should be at least 15-20 mins long.

      That's my 2 cents.

Isn't drinking that much water dangerous?

As far as I knew vegetables are real food. Probably a damn sight "real"er than the shit you likely eat now, considering your weight.

You can choose not to eat vegetables like a 7 year old, but then you can't blame anything else when you stay fat and unhealthy. With that attitude I hardly expect miracles.

      Don't do situps or crunches.

Cause it will build the muscle, and not get rid of the fat. Meaning the fat just looks bigger.

Have a good diet of not too much, regularly, like O said. Include vegetables even if you don't like them, you child. Alot less carbs and red meat and fat. Alot more Vegetables and lean meat.

Do this, with just a small amount of cardio, like a long walk a day, or jogging.

And that is all you'll need.

Probably not (though I might in soda, but I'm cutting back on that), but 2 gallons isn't 2 liters. 2 gallons is about 7.5 liters.

My point wasn't that we should drink 2 gallons a day. Go and re read everything and you'll see I said noone drinks as much water as they should. Which is true for most people here.

I didn't say people should drink 2 gallons.

I didn't say that because we don't have as much as we should, its ok to drink 2 gallons.

I'm not sure what your problem is.

Why do people always think I have a problem with them? I have no problem whatsoever, I just critically look at your replies. And he/she/it said "2 gallons? isn't that way too much/deadly/whatever?" (something along those lines) and you said "yes, but do you hit 2 litres?".

2 litres is something different from 2 gallons, even if you don't hit them. Let me explain to you why your comparison was crap.

Let's say people don't hit 2 liters, but instead drink something like 1 to 1.5. That's 50% to 75% of aforementioned 2 liters. If people would drink 50% to 75% of 2 gallons (this being roughly 3.8L and 5.6L), that'd still be bad for you at best, and lethal at worst.

People might aspire to drink 2L, but they don't. However, people shouln't aspire to drink 7.5L, because even if they don't get close they can still do serious damage to their bodies.

It's never okay to drink 2 gallons in one day.

EDIT: To back that up, surely you know about the death by the person who drank too much water when participating in "Hold your wee for a wii"?
According to contest participants, 17 to 20 contestants took part in the competition in a room at KDND's studios. The contest broadcast during the station's "Morning Rave" program began around 6:15 a.m. as contestants were each handed 8 oz (2.4 dl) water bottles to drink at 15 minute intervals. Contestants also said that as the contest progressed, they were given increasingly larger quantities of water to drink. Some later remarked on the physical discomfort they suffered during and following the event.
8 oz being about a quarter liter, 8 of them being 2L. Okay, they got increasly larger quantities, but even if it doubled, that'd still only be 4L, which isn't nowhere near 7.5L, and that killed him/her. I've heard plenty of stories like this.

I was wondering what your problem with what i said was.

And I get that you shouldn't drink 2 gallons a day. But I never said you should do?

I may have phrased this badly but what I meant was that "yes it is alot. most people don't drink enough anyway though, which is 2 litres."

I think either that's my clumsy language or your interpretation of it, because I'm pretty sure I haven't said anyone should have 2 gallons a day.

I misread "didn't" as "did" in this sentence:

My point still stands. To me it sounded like you were insinuating it was okay in your posts.
Little communication error here. No harm done. You can have my firstborn child as a sacrificial offering.

EDIT: I also apologize to the thread starter, sorry for derailing your thead like this. You can have my secondborn.

This is true. The kidneys work even slower if you're working out while doing it, which makes it a lot more dangerous to drink lots of water, and why water intoxication happens to marathon runners.

Running is by far the best way to loose weight. Also, don't snack. People don't realize how many calories they ingest if they snack while watching television.
