Did you have a reason in the dream for cutting your dogs ear off? Might help with analysis. I know that ones teeth and hair falling out are quite common in dreams, it's the same with ears and fingers. OOH! I have an interpretation, MAYBE in waking life you get tired of being told what to do, so you cut the dogs ear off to represent your want to break free and not have to listen to other people, your mum represents the people that tell you want to do and the dog represents you becasue you feel like you're being controlled and looked after like a pet. You don't want to be suffocated with people telling you what to do, even if they have good intentions. The fact that you cut one ear off not two could show that you want to break free and do your own thing but you're not ignorant, you know what's right and wrong so you don't completely want to shut yourself off and go against what people say (which could be represented if you'd cut off both ears), you just want a little freedom. That's just my interpritation, not saying that's what the dream means, but it's an idea
