Thread: What would this be considered? Can anyone relate?

Hi. I am Topher! I am a newbie.
(Sorry if this is long)

But anyways-
I just wanted to talk about some weird dreams I have been having for as long as I can remember.

It seems like I have always randomly had these dreams where I would "wake up" in the middle of the night in my bed and I would actually still be dreaming. I never know I am dreaming except for when I try to roll over and go back to sleep and realize I cannot move at all. Sometimes my neck is just in pain because it is in an awkward position and I lay there trying my hardest to just move it back upright on my pillow but fail miserbly. Other times I hear screams or just voices whispering in my ear that give me chills.

But as of recently I have been seeing things. One night I was having an episode and I was just going to lay there until it was over (like I usually do). However, this time something actually came in my room. It was a dark, hairy looking figure. It walked across my room and placed its hand on my head. It then proceeded to tap its fingers on my head in a rolling motion. Recently I had a dream where I heard someone mowing the lawn outside at like 3AM in the morning. I "woke up" (in the dream) and said outloud, "Who the heck is mowing the lawn this late at night?" And then all of a sudden, the person outside responded. It screamed at me, "DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH PEOPLE MOWING THEIR LAWNS THIS LATE?" and then I heard it break down my front door and run up the stairs to my room. Next it banged and banged on my door and I could see it's fingers on the bottom of the door itself as if it were trying to claw in.

I mean- usually when I think of nightmares, I imagine people running from some killer in the woods. I do have nightmares similar to these, but for me- what I truly consider nightmares are episodes like these. I find it weird that all of these horrible things can happen without me even leaving my bed.

Another odd thing that I find about these dreams, is sometimes when I have them like around dawn- the lightning in my dream is the exact same as when I wake up from the dream. In addition, my head is always in the exact same position in my dream as when I wake up. Is there anyway my eyes are partially open?

But yeah- the only weird thing I have noticed is that in my dreams everything is clear, but when I wake up things are blurry (as they should be because I don't have my glasses on). So maybe it is a combination of both?

Well- I just wanted to share this with you guys to see what you all thought about it...and if anyone could relate.

Sounds like a type of FA (false awakening), where you're actually quite lucid. The inability to move is known as SP (sleep paralysis) and as you say happens when you're not fully asleep and can sense your motionless body. Some people reach lucidity by noticing SP after waking in the night.

I recently read a book which suggested we should "take the pain" in dreams rather than fight. Something to do with facing fear in dream time so we won't be afraid in real life. Can't say I've tried it but you might find it useful. I suspect it will mean your FAs become more tolerable too. As to why you get these dreams - well, who knows? Seems like we all have our own styles of dreaming, possibly reflecting the way we experience and understand real life events.

There will be many people here who know more about lucidity and FAs than I do. I hope you get some good answers.

Oh wow. Yeah- I am definitely a fighter when it comes to me having these dreams. Most of the time I am just automatically overcome with an intense sense of fear even when I am trying to stay as calm as possible. I guess it is just a combination of me not being able to move and knowing that something is lurking in the dark corner of my room or outside my doorway.

Even though I have these types of dreams regularly, it does not make them any less terrifying.
