      What is it called?

What is it called when, practically right before you fall asleep, a little scene plays out in your mind and right when it ends it makes a really loud noise and wakes you back up? Because that's happened to me a couple of times before.

I don't know, but I had something like that once, In my dream I knocked a cup out of the cupboard and then I woke up because somebody (my brother or something) knocked a cup out of the cupboard. And one time I had a dream as I was falling asleep that I fell off the back of a motorcycle, I swear I bounced 5 inches off my bed because my entire body like spasmed.

I think a lot of people get that. It usually happens to me in situations where I'm in public so my body is on extra guard and tries to wake me up, like when I'm trying to sleep on an airplane.

I'm pretty sure you experienced hypnagogia. In your case, hypnagogic imagery and sound. A lot of other senses occur in this state too. Check it out: Hypnagogia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Hope this helps.
