can anyone help me figure out what this dream might mean?

Last night i had a really strange dream, i almost always have the most screwed up dreams of all time but this had one of the strangest circumstances i've ever experienced. Apparently, at the request of my boyfriend i had had some kind of surgery or procedure done to transform my tongue into a penis. The procedure was not part of the dream, only the aftermath. I remember i was at work at one point (i am a hostess in a japanese restaurant) but i had been switched to a different job-working the cash register, and the restaurant was more like a convenience store at this point. i couldn't figure out the stupid thing and customers were yelling at me, calling me a bitch and such i was asking this girl who i used to work with to come help me...or something...anyway at this point i was having difficulty in speaking and i kept having to fold this penis-tongue underneath itself to keep it hidden. I was starting to feel very ashamed about it, and suddenly remembered that i had done it for my boyfriend without even thinking about it and now regretted this so strongly, i felt humiliated at what i had done. Then i remember going with my boyfriend somewhere to get a psychic reading or something and it was two people i knew from school and they both ridiculed my boyfriend saying he had gay thoughts or something. I remember something about a video being posted on facebook ridiculing him. In my waking life, i know my boyfriend is not gay, he is about as straight of an american male as they come. so i don't know where these thoughts were coming from. i remember feeling like they were attacking him for no reason and that it wasn't fair that they weren't saying mean things to me too. or something. its hard to describe. I love my boyfriend very much! i was very sad for him in the dream--but at the same time i was angry at myself because of him. I just couldn't believe that i had mutilated myself like that at his request, without even a second thought at the time. another vivid image from this dream i can't get out of my brain is of looking in the mirror at myself (it seemed like i was in the master bedroom of the house i grew up in so i was in my parents old bedroom doing this) and opening my mouth and looking at this penis-tongue thing as it grew in size and then deflated over and over again. As i type this i am feeling the most overwhelming urge to cry. I remember waking up and inspecting my tongue immediately, and feeling confused and surprised that it was normal. this dream has stuck itself in my brain. i read that dreams about tongues can signify something that you need to say or express. But how can i connect that with the fact that my tongue was a penis. I remember the overwhelming feeling of humiliation and self-hatred when i realized i had done this to myself without thought just because my boyfriend wanted me to. I found this dream very disturbing and any help in what it could mean would mean so much. thank you.

I really don't have strange dreams, however, if you want to learn to communicate in a lucid dream you have to ask very specific questions and know how to abstract the answer from the givens.

Dream interpretation is really best left to the dreamer, in my belief. But, there are things that other people can do to try and help you figure things out. Situations and objects in dreams will mean different things depending on who is dreaming them. In his book, Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming, Stephen LaBerge talks about the idea of schemas. Basically, this theory says that dreams are created by what a person expects to happen in certain situations based on past experience. Often, a dream starts with just a random setting or object and then your expectations about that setting or object create the "plot" of the dream. In your case, it is possible that you were focused on your tongue for some reason in the dream, and when you focused on it, you found it had become a penis. Now, it is possible you had a recent experience that brought this imagery to mind, or that it was actually a fairly random thing your brain came up with. The part about the dream that I believe is of real interest is how you reacted to your situation and rationalized it. You thought, "why would my tongue become a penis?" and your subconscious came up with the solution that you'd had surgery. Why would you have surgery? Because your boyfriend wanted it. The fact that you came up with that answer could possibly indicate that you fear that people won't like you for who you are. You might feel like you have to change for other people a lot of the time. Once again, only you would know, but this is a possible interpretation. The concerns about your BF being gay probably stems from your dream brain concluding that if he wanted your tongue to be a penis, that would raise suspicions about his sexuality. I doubt that it means you worry about his sexuality in real life. It was just a way of your brain explaining the situation you were in. It is interesting that you felt defensive of him in the dream rather than angry. This might indicate that you are sensitive to how others feel about him. Your feelings of guilt and the need to hide your surgery also may indicate you are worried about what others think of your relationship. Once again, keep in mind that you know best what your dream means to you. In my opinion, your reactions to your deformation in your dream are more important than just the image of the penis tongue. Our subconscious does all kind of strange messed up things with the appearance of our physical bodies in dreams. A surefire way to have something fucked up happen to your dream body is to stare in a mirror.
