Time to replace the brake shoes.... Do you have trouble stopping or controlling cars in dreams?

I've had a lot of dreams where I'm driving and can't control the car. Often I'm backing out of my driveway and when I hit the brakes it won't stop... maybe just slows down a bit, and drifts on and on into the neighbor's yard, which is a very steep downhill grade, and I can't see very well behind me but I always feel like I'm about to crash through the front wall of their house!!

Other times I'm driving and suddenly I'm not in the car anymore, I'm standing in the street controlling it with a joystick or something, and everything's fine until it goes around a turn up ahead and then I can't see it anymore and I hear it crash.

When I told my friend this once he said it never happened to him - that he could always drive perfectly in dreams - but then I realized he's pretty much a liar most of the time anyway and won't admit that he can't do everything perfectly. So I just want to confirm or deny that this is pretty common in dreams. I suspect it is.

Tell me about your dream driving experiences.

So, are you talking about driving in lucids or no-lucids. I have a lot of trouble driving in non-lucid dreams. I have had several car wreck dreams because my brakes weren't working properly. It seems I have to really slam on them for the car to even slow down a bit, but it won't stop. One interesting thing is, I have quite a few dreams where I will be in the car with someone, but no one is driving it. Its like, on auto-pilot. I have gotten lucid several times because of this and the car usually drives perfectly on its own (even if I don't become lucid during these dreams). During lucids, I never have much trouble with driving. Though, most of the time, I fly cars instead of drive them. Flying cars is a lot of fun.

Yeah, I'm talking about non-lucids... I figure in a lucid dream you'll tend to have a lot more control.

Interesting, yes, I've noticed exactly the same thing. The brake pedal will go way down, far past where it normally does, and still only slow the car down a little if at all, and I have to press super-hard before it starts to do any good. Even then stopping is very slow (if it stops at all that is).

So far I've driven a couple of times in lucids but don't have the same problems there. Thanks for answering!
