Question I had a dream in Non REM in shalow sleep face, Is this common?

Hey guys so i've been having trouble sleeping and i tried alot.

Then like at 4am after struggling for a while and not being able to sleep i got up frm bed, then tried again. Although it was hard, i tried to relax more and let myself. I didn't fall to sleep but i was in shallow but not fully deep state of sleep.

Like for example of there's Stage 0(awake) and Stage1, i was in about State 0.2 with my eyes closed just trying to sleep and breathing.

Well i suddenty had a dream. It was weird, cause even though i was still awake my mind suddenly made up a dream.

It just lasted little bit but i was aware and pretty awake but kind of just entering Stage 1.....but not well into Stage 1,, just like i said maybe Stage 0.2

Anyways, i've heard there's REM dreams and Non REM dreams. Is the dream i had a NonREM dream anddoes this happen often?
Maybe it happend cause i was staying in that 0.2 state for a long time trying to fallasleep but failing.

I've always slept good before( just recently having some imsonia) but even then yeah i would get sudden images before gong to deep sleep but i wouldn't get like full dreams. In this case i got like a full dream . It was short but it was definitly a story.

PS by saying i had a dream although aware i don't mean it was lucid. Not at all. It was those regular dreams that run like a movie and you just let them pass. and it wasn't vivid and stuff.

Honestly, it's impossible to tell. Even though non-rem and rem dreams have distinct characteristics, many of them are actually impossible to accurately categorize. After 4am you'd be entering in REM at a much faster pace, so I'd go ahead and guess you had a rem dream, especially after reading this:

It was those regular dreams that run like a movie and you just let them pass.

I may have experienced something like this before, I'm not quite sure. Did you feel like you could wake up easily during the dream?

I did a quick search on non-REM sleep and found this website. You can have a look at it but I'm not sure about its accuracy: The National Sleep Research Project - 40 amazing facts about sleep

i get those sometimes i think, dose it feel like your mind kinda wonders without you resizing into a kinda dream like state? but then you relize your not quite asleep yet and you then snap out of it?

if so i think its called hypnagogia, the state in between awake and asleep.

i may have mis interpreted the question so if I'm a bit off the mark then sorry hahaha
