Thumbs down "every character you've seen in your dream, you've seen in real life" - complete BS

why don't you believe that you brain has the ability to create the image of a completely new human being with its own imagination?

I've heard it thrown at me when I explain my long and vivid dreams. I don't really know what kind of evidence would prove such a thing, though. Google doesn't help, but I don't want to argue, so I just say "ok".

Literally everything your brain comes up with is a mixture of things you have already perceived before.

keyword, "perceived". Why can't i perceive the image of a human being that i've never seen?

It's like saying an artist can only draw what he sees with his eyes.

Your brain stores everything you have seen, you can make anything out of the things you have seen, even something unique, even something like a whole new breed of human beings, even a new colour if you want to go that far.
Everyone creates new things out of old things in turn creating something possibly completely different.

Who is saying you can't perceive or create the image of a human being that i've never seen?

Whenever people tell me this I ask them what the evidence is.

IMO this is a myth along the same lines as "70% of people ever born are alive today" (yes that one's major BS too, folks). Verbal chain letters.

Just think these things through for a second before passing them on, folks. How would anyone know whether this is true or not?

There was a book written a few years ago by a guy who presented evidence that dreams are mostly random and mostly have no useful meaning. From random firings in the brain or something.
