Hello everyone, this is my first post here, so I hope I'm posting this in the right discussion.

I've always had a problem visualizing things in my mind. I can hardly visualize even major things in my day to day life like my parents, my house or my friends (I don't have any problem recognizing things I've seen before though).
I have the same problem in dreams - I can wake up, remember my dream perfectly, but I could never remember exactly what things looked like.

For example, I would remember I talked to a certain person, but I wouldn't remember any exact details about their appearance like hair color etc, or I'd remember I was in a hospital, but wouldn't remember a thing about the way it looked.
Until recently I just blamed my problematic visual memory for these things, but for the last 6 months I finally managed to get my first ever lucid dreams via sleep paralysis (I get those quite often since I was a small child)
and while I was in these dreams, I actually felt how difficult it was for me to see anything - I saw my surroundings as a sort of dark shimmer, without any actual details visible.
Trying to focus helped make my vision just slightly more stable, but whenever I tried actually doing anything - even moving - my world would just collapse back to that dark shimmering, no matter how hard I tried to focus.

It's kind of the same story with sounds, by the way.

TL,DR: If I remember a dream, I do so more as if I've read it from a book than to have actually experienced it.

Have any of you ever experienced or heard of what I've described? I tried looking it up online and talking to my friends about it, but no luck so far...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
