Recurring Dream in Just One Place

I sometimes have trouble sleeping when at home on my own. So, when my boyfriend would leave for work, I would go and sleep in the living room. For months and months I had the same dream, or from what I have read here, maybe a false awakening. I would wake up on the chair and notice that the front door was open and I would think my boyfriend had come back. Then I realize he hadn't and I would get scared because I knew I didn't open the door myself. The dream would differ from time to time. Sometimes I would close the living room door but it would open slowly and somebody would come in to try and attack me. Sometimes it was someone I knew, sometimes it wasn't. Other times I would go to investigate in the hallway and somebody would pop out and try to attack me. When I was being attacked, in either version of the dream, I could not sleep or run. The attacker never touched me. Sometimes I would wake up and think it was only a dream, but I would be still actually asleep and not awake.

I know these dreams are common but what freaked me out a bit was that I only had such dreams while living in one apartment. Do you think this means something?

      Hello scarydreams,
It's nice that you live up to your name.

I must say that I just LOVE dreams like this. As you already noticed, the dream isn't going away..
A long time ago, I had a recurring nightmare, and it didn't go away until I "solved" it. Also, most of the people that have been in a similar situation said the same thing, and it's usually about fear, and facing it.

The simplest thing for you to do, would be to face your fears.
Now, I see that you already tried investigating, but that's not really facing the fear.
The fact that the dream is recurring means that it will be easier for you to turn it into a lucid dream = be aware that you are dreaming.

      What I would do, is
Before sleep, while lying in your bed just think of the dream, and say "I will realize it's a dream"
Once you do have that dream, chances are you will know that you are in a lucid dream, and will have full control ^-^ .. then, all you need to do, is open the door knowing nothing can harm you in a dream, and nicely ask the person why is it bothering you? The person will calm down and answer, and never bother you again

      Yay.

On a handful of occasions, my family used go out early and I'd stay home and sleep. On these days, I'd have false awakenings that they came back home early. Some of them got pretty scary because I had sleep paralysis within the dreams. So I couldn't move to look out the window, or see who is was knocking on my door. I always had the feeling that it was just my family, but there was still an uncertainty because I couldn't actually see them, all I could do was hear them. Nowadays, I know they are dreams; I am able to go lucid and turn them into great things!
