I saw something behind my closed eyelids last morning

This morning I had a pretty cool experience: I felt that I had woken up, but even though I had my eyelids closed, I could actually see something above me - it isn't really that important what it was, but it looked kind of like a combination lock inside a small space that was illuminated by a dark blue light. This was actually a pretty vivid sight as well, and the fact that I could see it even though my eyelids were shut was a very bizarre feeling. Then when I suddenly started thinking for myself "hey... am I dreaming?!" everything went black again and I opened my eyes and was awake. Do you have any idea what this could've been? Was it a part of a dream, or maybe some sort of late Hypnagogic Imagery?

I think it could have been a false awakening - a dream that starts by waking up. I had plenty of FAs in which I wake up in bed and everything is normal looking or maybe something is weird (e.g. visuals, lights, fog, noise...), only to wake up for real a second later... Could be HI too - which are just short dreams between REM and other stages, but it's sounds like the part of waking up was false, so this excludes any Hypnagogic Hallucinations in my opinion.
