Why do i always lose my strength?

Okay so this is something i kinda want to fix. A lot of times i am in a dream state and then i end up fighting someone or something. The interesting thing is that i always tend to lose my strength when fighting. Like i can't pick up my sword, or swing a large stick, or give a good solid punch. I always lose my strength, thus i lose the fight, thus i wake up. Any ideas on how i can fix this cause this happens just about every time i try to fight in a dream.

This isn't something you can just fix. In normal dreams things just happen, but they are usually influenced by real life stuff. So if you can understand what these dreams mean and what they represent(and it is you who can do this best) maybe then you'll be able to understand why you dream such dreams.

Or you can try inducing a lucid dream and then beat the cr@p outta em'

I have had this since I was very little, started out being unable to run away from something.

I think when that happens it's best not to force it. I have a hypothesis, and it is just that nothing more because I don't really know. My idea is that it you could be close to waking and it could be that because of the adrenaline or some other factor, you get the feel for your physical body and your mind gets confused between your physical body and dream body. You could be feeling your physical body as you're trying to move, find it can't move, and the dream adapts to that and creates a scenario where you've lost all your strength.

Maybe it would help to know you're dreaming, and to relax. Be aware of not trying to move your physical body and just try to move your dream body with your mind, imagine your dream body is separate but you can still feel it as if it were your physical body but it requires more mind work to make it move than it requires physical force. I find this has helped personally.

I have the same problem. Whenever I get into trouble in a dream and need to punch someone or struggle for some reason, I am really weak and all my punches are feather-light.

Mind you, I'm a weak little girl in real life too, but I think I could at least surprise someone or give them a bloody lip if I was panicking.

I liked that idea above of being too close to waking and too associated with your paralyzed body...

Intresting something similar happends to me. Something threating would be after me and i would get dizzy and fall over and i would be so dizzy that i couldn't get up. But in my last LD this happened and i took control and stoped it (truely amazing and exiting for me when it happened.)

I know that happens as I get close to waking and start to connect with my body. My body is obviously motionless so my dream body just won't shift.

If you have some degree of lucidity, try something to get the dream to carry on longer. Spinning on the spot works for me. Then beat the hell out of the DC.

I've had similar experiences in dreams as well. I think it has to do with feelings of powerlessness in waking life. IMO modifying them in either of the two states of conciousness should help with both.

Bingo!! I was just going to say the same. Do something in the day that makes you feel like a complete badass. Beat the crap out of a punching bag, run through the woods in some bigass hiking boots and kick things... get your blood flowing and your dander up. Usually feelings like this carry through into your dreams... especially if you do something really unusual. This is why Don Juan Matus (from the Castaneda books) says you must break your routine. Routine is the enemy!

I too have this problem but the thing is, I never had this problem few years back. But now,its like I can fight,I want to fight by I lose all of my strength. This is bad,as it had started to spill in real life as well.

Oh this is an interesting question!

I've read before that some people think it is associated with feeling connected to your sleeping body, which is effectively paralyzed during REM, and so you might feel sluggish and weak in some dream states in which you are close to waking up. However, I am quite skeptical about this idea!

I personally think that if you are feeling weak when you punch or perform any physical activity (a common one for me is super slow running), then it is because that is what you are expecting to happen. I have noticed from experimenting a fair bit in dreams in which this has happened to me that I can completely reverse my physical prowess with my expectations - In these sluggish dreams, I imagine how fantastic it would feel to be incredibly strong and fast, and then I let that feeling grow inside of me, and as it grows inside of me I start to embody those traits in the dream. Then I'm like superman!
