Heh, I thought you DVers might like this.
Last night, I had an odd dream. I accepted the reality of the dream all the way through; in other words, not even a hint of lucidity. Still remarkable though.
I was seated in some kind of chair, perhaps rather like a dentist's, in a white room. I was about to have some kind of operation. A woman approached me. She was holding a large glass syringe. I lay back, slightly nervous (I don't think anybody finds injections fun ); I was aware that I was about to be sent to sleep for this operation.
This is something I've wondered at before; what the experience of being forced into unconciousness is like.
Well, to be honest, it was weird, and the fact that I was in reality already asleep probably made it even weirder. I was engulfed by blackness, and I tried to fight the feeling of being 'turned off'; there was no element of fatigue. However, after five seconds or so I gave in. What happened next, or at least I think happened next, is one of those things where you just marvel at how amazing the brain is, and even though it is essentially ourselves, we have no idea how 'clever' it can be; it's like there's a whole other person inside us, and a smart one at that. Basically, to simulate a dreamless sleep, my brain did exactly that; the dream ended, and I was essentially unconcious. The incredible part is though, that after what could really have been any length of time, the dream booted up again; I was concious, albeit in a dream. I was awake, and the operation had been sucessful.
I think almost immediately after this I woke up; and that was that. If you've ever personally experienced being forced into a sleep under anesthetic, please say so; I've had dreams before which were accurate representations of experiences which I've never had before, and I'd like to know if this was one.
