i've had a few dreams where i seem to be oddly close to nightmares and always seem to avoid them somehow. i recently had a lucid dream where i was in a bathroom that really creeped me out to the point where i was almost certain the dream would turn out to be a lucid nightmare.

the night before this lucid dream, i had seen the texas chainsaw massacre: the beginning. it didn't really scare me that much, but it kind of scary to think that it actually happened.

i have this "phobia" i guess is what it would be called when i'm alone, especially when i'm in an area that has many concealable areas. i hate taking showers because i always have a fear that there is someone or something on the other side of the curtain watching/plotting against me. i usually peak around the curtain at least once every time i take a show.
i don't really like sleeping alone in the dark, but i can usually manage.
i usually feel uncomfortable walking past beds, especially during the night.

i guess it could be considered a fear of the unknown or uncontrolable.

i was wondering, with constant thoughts throughout the day of something scary, why hardley ever get nightmares. many of my dreams i'm by myself, and usually when i am, im somewhat worried.

i wouldn't go as far is calling it paranoia because that is usually all the time. i have no trouble with having my back turned to the door while i'm on my computer, studying, or just thinking of stuff. its when i am kind of just sitting there with my thoughts wondering that these thoughts pop into my head. i'm not too worried about it, but i'm wondering why these feelings don't cause nightmares often.

(sorry. kind of a long post)

Hmmmm... I usually jump from the middle of my floor to my bed in order to avoid getting near the side of my bed. I think it may be some childhood habit that went to far... I dunno though

i know what you mean. i've been doing stuff like this ever since i was a little kid. i usually do a "fast walk" to get to my bed on a bad night. most nights i'm fine though. maybe i should stop watching scary movies.

In my own dreamtime work, the nightmares are typically about personal fears or suppressed anger or other emotion that I don't feel safe to express. Each person's dream terrain is unique to them and yours may be different but in all the people I've worked with, on dreamtime interpretation, I've seen a definite value to what might be called nightmares and do feel that such dreams help us relieve stress, work through anxieties and work out worries and cares of the day.

Your complete absense of such dreams, combined with the persistent worried state you talked about, suggest there may be some unresolved issues in your life that are trying to come through and receive attention in dreamtime.

I know about illogical fears too. I remember, after I saw Jaws, I went home and had to look under the bed and in the closet. Bizarre. But I was that afraid of that shark. Later, years later, when I finally started healing some of the trauma of my own childhood that had been suppressed, I suddenly realized what the shark had represented to me in that movie theatre.

It seems the worries of your mind could be interfering with quality of life. If that's true, I'd suggest seeking out counseling of some type to help resolve any issues that might surface.

They are in no way taking over my life. They are kind of habitual fears.

I don't hallucinated, I don't hear things, I don't see things, nothing like that. I only have random thoughts of scary parts from movies, et cetera. I don't feel that in any way its affecting my life style.

You do not need to be crazy to be taken over by fear.

Your life is already being taken over as I'm reading that you show ''cautious behaviour'' even when it's in a shower in which NOONE ELSE is or just in the dark, which may cause some to think you have a sort of paranoļa, to what EXTENT you get influenced is a different matter.

I remember seeing some documentary about a kid that had a similiar fear.
Except that this wasn't about men plotting weird stuff, but she always feared in the dark that someone might be around the corner to kidnap her, no matter where it is, as silly as it might sound.

I don't remember how they "fixed this" though.

I myself, have long been a sort of "afraid of evil stuff" that might lurk in the dark (You can't really see anything in the dark so it could be there) whilst it didn't even make sense.

The way I solved that was by using my imagination to ''protect myself''.
