What's the go with dream states?

I mean why do we say 'you have lucid dreams when you get into REM', or 'after roughly four to six hours sleep'? It gets me confused when I read: "You can then enter the dream state if you're aware enough"; example WILD or WBTB - sometimes even before sleep.

      How come these don't relate?

I have no idea about the dream states either. I can still get lucid dreams without thinking about dream stages anyway.

you dream in REM sleep. where your eyes move rapidly back in forth. you go into your first rem period at about 90 min after you go to sleep, so you will dream there. the first couple of rem periods are really short, and they get longer and closer together as the night gos on. That is why they tell you to wake up 4-6 hours after you went to sleep. cause those are the longer rem stages for better dreaming. you will still dream before that though.

      hope that helped some

Yeah thanks, it's just because that REM state is the longest.
