Has anyone ever had a dream where they fell into complete darkness and was full of total fear. I am not talking about being a little afraid, im talking about being completely paranoid and afraid for your life. This happens to me once and a while and its really creepy. I will like fall over in a dream and feel like my soul is being sucked out of me.

I've only had that fear once... and It wasnt for me. It was for a friend. The Dream is in my Dream Journal, but I'll post it here:

My vision starts blurred, and then focuses. I am on ground and in pain. I am in my school, leaning again a wall or locker. Its hard for me to move. I look at the floor around me, which is covered in blood. I look at my hands, blood is running down my arm. I look to my left. My friend Sarah is on the ground, struggling to get up. A character steps into view and towers over her. In his hand he holds a combat knife. He stares down at her, and thrusts the knife into her neck. Then pulls it out and slashes her stomach. Fear surges through me, as I watch her body become lifeless. Her eyes turn grey. A sinical smile from the character, as he stares at me.

      I woke up in a cold sweat.[/b]
I later again had the dream a second time, even worse. It was more realistic and more fearful. That time I heard her scream out in Fear, Pain and Mercy. It pained me to hear her like that.

She also never, screams. She shows no fear, and no signs of pain when shes in it. She would also never beg for mercy. I, and our other close friend are the same way. We've known each other for life, litterally.

I phoned her immediatly after having that dream. It was 3:30am.

Those are night terrors. If they become worse or to the point were you are scared to go to sleep or become paranoid in the wakening world then you should see a professional about them. I watched a show on T.V. about night terrors and people were saying that if they didnt find a way to supress these dreams they were gonig to kill themselves.

No, those are not night terrors. Hes just having very, very intense nightmares. People often confuse the two

Night Terrors are entirely different, Night Terrors you are unable to wake up, and won't even if someone tries to wake you up. You also won't remember what just happened, you just be very, very afraid.

Night terrors are distinct from nightmares in several key ways. First, the subject is not fully awake when roused, and even when efforts are made to awaken the sleeper, he/she may continue to experience the night terror for ten to twenty minutes. Unlike nightmares, night terrors occur during the deepest levels of non-REM sleep. Even if awakened, the subject often cannot remember the episode except for a sense of panic, while nightmares usually can be easily recalled. After the night terror is complete, it can often result in a seizure, which is commonly a tonic-clonic type (although the subject may not be epileptic). The subject often has no recall of the dream, nor the fit.

Unlike nightmares, which are frequently a scary event dreamt (e.g. a monster under the bed, falling to one's death, etc.), night terrors are not dreams. Usually there is no situation or event (scary or otherwise) that is dreamt, but rather the emotion of fear itself is felt. Often, this is coupled with tension and apprehension without any distinct sounds or visual imagery, although sometimes a vague object of fear is identified by the sufferer. These emotions without a focusing event or scenario increase emotions in a cumulative effect. The lack of a dream itself leaves those awakened from a night terror in a state of disorientation much more severe than that caused by a normal nightmare. This can include a short period of amnesia during which the subject may be unable to recall his name, location, age, or any other identifying features of himself. This state generally passes after only one or two minutes.

While each night terror is usually different, all episodes of the same person will generally have similar traits. One of the most common qualities of night terrors is a strong sense of danger. For these people there is always a being, tangible or otherwise, who wishes to hurt the sleeping person. Many sufferers of night terrors are reluctant to speak of them because of their violent and often disturbing nature[/b]

Plus its not like I have them every night, or even every month. It might happen twice in a year.

I'm not deathly afraid of the feeling, its just really really weird.
