For the past few months, I've been having a lot of trouble visualizing myself. Whenever I close my eyes, I can vaguely see myself, but not as vividly as I can other objects. This trait carries on into my dreams, where I usually take the form of a "dream avatar". The avatar is an object or person that I saw during the day, and it's usually random... It's ranged from Link from LoZ(fairly normal considering it was a Zelda-themed dream) to a 2-D sprite.

It's a bit peculiar, but does anyone else have this problem, or have any suggestions?

I never really see myself in lucid dreams because most of my dreams are in first person. Do you dream more often in 3rd person? Thats more likely where you have to visualize yourself. And maybe if you do dream in 3rd person in lucid dreams try and dream in 1st person? I don't have too many techniques for that but when my dreams are in 3rd person I'm usally up very high and looking down, maybe try falling in a lucid dream? Then your end up on the ground and the view is more 1st person like.

Sometimes that happens to me. Not always, but just enough, so I know what you're talking about. Another way of saying it is 'Day Residue'. It's in "Exploring the Wolrd of Lucid Dreaming" by Stephen LaBerge.

I never thought of that, and yes. Most of my dreams are in third person, and when I wake up, all of my dreams seem disjointed and random, mainly because of the many roles I've taken on throughout them.

No, in general I have difficulty visualizing myself, not just when I've woken up.
