I've been afflicted with a stomach virusl ately , during the day as I fight the feeling of nausea it seems that the fight was taken to my dreams. In the few hours at a time that I was able to sleep I had dreams of bubbles. Each bubble was a feeling of sickness as they flowed upwards across my vision I would pop them and experience a moment of relief, until the next bubble rose. Reality and dream became blurred.

I was wondering what other kinds of dreams are commonly associated with illness. Has anyone else had similar experiences? I know I've had nightmares before when I had fevers.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I used to get weird fever hallucinations/dreams as a kid, and I still have some really surreal dreams as an adult when I'm sick. The mind does weird things when you're sick or have a fever, that's for sure.

Check out this thread for more info about these fever hallucinations. I wish I knew if there was an actual name for this experience, but I haven't been able to find any more information about it.

First of all, I hope you feel better, bentrider.

Second of all, I know what you're talking about, too. Whenever I'm sick with a fever, there really is no such thing as reality. Everything feels like a dream. There was this one time when I was 10, I had a fever of 100.7. Nothing was 'real'. And the dreams I've had with a fever have been some of the most vivid dreams I've ever had.

      That's why I love 'em.

When I go to bed too soon after drinking I'll half wake up a couple hours later and basically be caught between waking and sleeping. It feels pretty gross until I fully wake up and almost literally walk it off for 30 minutes before going back to sleep. If I jsut try to sleep through it, I have really weird visions.
      I sleep to dream.

I had another one last night, where my guts were a japanese flash game, it was very reminiscent of this thing that I play every now and then. http://www.vivalagames.com/play/gravitywebtoy/

It was like I was looking over these peoples shoulder as they were playing, each time one player overtook another I felt discomfort in my abdomen. It was kind of like those uncomfortable cramps, but not as painful
I woke up and tried to shake it off but still had it in my brain. I eventually just had to lay on my side for an hour until all the stuff worked itself out. I still had two hours before morning though so it was ok.

You know thinking back I wonder why I didn't do more reality checks. It would've been great if it had been a dream, I could've just made myself numb and did something more interesting. I'm looking forward to being completely over this thing, I did beat the nausea, but I've still got trouble eating a full meal. I'll beat it yet though, thanks for the good wishes.

Not sure if this fits into the category of what you're talking about, but...

The last time I got the flu, it was incorporated into my dreams. I'm one who absolutely hates vomiting, so one night in bed (I was REALLY feeling like puking) I was constantly fighting myself not to let myself release it. And then I eventually drifted into sleep. There whatever I dreamed had something to do with the fact that my body absolutely wanted to throw up. I remember dreaming about being some kevlar-vested army dude engaged in hand-to-hand combat with someone from an opposing army, both our armies surrounding us in a circle cheering each of us on. The guy I was fighting was like "I know your weak point!" and was constantly throwing blows to my stomach, which in the dream reminded me of the fact that I was sick.

Never did puke, though. I somehow managed to suffer out the night with the horrible feeling in my stomach and the dreams that tried to get me to let it out. Weird stuff.

Oh yeah, I have a recurring sick theme too. I've had it since I was a kid. When I'd feel really sick to my stomach in the night, I'd be awakened by a dream of a king and queen in a huge old-fashioned wooden bed. They were rolling around in this huge bed like they both had stomach pains too. And all the rolling and tossing and turning and tumbling of bed covers just made me feel sicker. Then I'd wake up. It happened again just recently when I was food poisoned at a new restaurant.
Oh, plus I remember being absolutely delirious when I had the chicken pox. It's pretty wild what the mind comes up with in sickness!

I always had these too! When I was younger, I had the most terrifying dreams. Very similar to what you desribed, between reality and dreams. My parents I could hear on the "outside" but as you described, I had horrific geometric shapes, I don't know why they derrified me so much. They actually resembled giant tylenol chewables (the pink ones). I remember clearly A blue background, and being trapped in this dimension where I could barely move. Knowing something was going to do something to me. It felt like these tylenol pills or shapes were just trying to utterly detroy me, and crush me (I physicall felt crushed) and traumatize when I woke up. Also, I had a hallucination of my parents fan when I had fevers also. I felt it coming closer and knew it was gonna cut me. These dreams traumatized me, but I haven't had them since.

I never knew others had such similar ones, its good to know

Sick dreams are awesome, but they are also too nauseating mostly to enjoy! I know exactly what you are talking about.
