My father died of a heart attack when I was about 5. He was a smoker, like me. Now that I'm 36, I have pretty much outlived him.. or real close.

Last night I had the most vivid dream of him. I believe I became partially lucid.

I remember talking with him.. about what, I don't remember. The point I believe I became lucid was when I looked at him, realized it was my dad, and told him "Dad... please quite smoking so you can stick around and be with your family. I miss you so much!"

I remember starting to cry in my dream. He looked at me and smiled. All I remember was his two bottom teeth were severly discolored from cigarette smoke. (they weren't IRL, and mine aren't either). I realize it really was my subconcious telling me to quit smoking. And that we had just visited my grandparents (his parents) in arizona a little over a week ago.

I remember waking up right after that crying for 2 reasons. 1, the dream crying, and 2, that I got to see my dad again.

Anyhow, just wanted to share. Hopefully I will become lucid again.. to talk with him. It was so cool. Next time I want to share my story with him, about my beautiful wife and daughter, sucessful business, etc. Even though I know he already knows. And even if it is only my subconcious... it still meant a lot.
Only the cinders remain as another night becomes a yesterday...

Powerful dream, legbuh. Ya know how some dreams feel like they're very significant? This was one of those dreams.
I think that's definitely a sign for you to quit smoking.

I can understand your dream, I myself too have lost a family members. Although not physically but I was taken away from them when I was younger and have not seen them in many many many years, let me stress the many. If you are dreaming about quiting smoking then you obviously need to stop, you should let your thoughts lead you, it's your gut feeling and you should abide by them. But you have to face the fact of him being gone and if LDing and confronting him is the way you can do it, then bravo, do it some more. Get it out of your system there is no reason to relive the past in a negative way. And you should never mourn someones death, celebrate his life, that's the best way to keep his existence eternal.

I've thought about conjuring up my parents in a LD but, I don't know if I could face them without getting a little excited. But I think that wanting something so bad can make you have more ambition to LD then other things a long the lines of; sex, flying, confronting fears (small ones that don't consume you). I'm thinking of trying to use my loss as a stepping stone to getting my LD on, then maybe I can have other thoughts besides these.

And when I said getting over his death I'm not trying to imply that you haven't but it's just a thought incase you haven't.

Nice post, nice to see one with feeling and good thought behind it.

Sorry for your loss, live strong!
