I dreamt last night that my track team and I were all trying to write essays about lucid dreaming for some sort of extra-credit in an English class. I was working on a factual definition essay, a teammate was working on a story about false awakenings, and everyone was talking about LDing-- but I never thought to even do a reality check!

Aaargh. From now on, whenever ANYONE mentions dreams to me, in ANY situation, I'm going to RC.

Has anyone else suffered from this particular annoyance?

Yes, a lot.....even last night: did a False Awakening after a lucid dream and I told everybody I wanted to go back to sleep to have another lucid....sometimes I go talking to DCs telling them I wished I KNEW I were dreaming.....
As you say too, one of the remedee (even if I find these situations funny thinking about it.....afterwards) is doing RCs whenever you think about dreams, hear/see the word dream...etc.....like now!

Yeah, something like this happened to me once. I was at the house of a DV member who's picture I've never seen, and I was looking at a magazine on the floor (I think about games), with a Lucid Dreaming article in it, then when I looked back the article was gone! I think there are about a billion ways to fail attaining lucidity. The trick is to watch out for them, so you can improve your chance.

Haha, thanks, guys. I feel slightly less angry with myself after hearing your stories.

The 'RC whenever anyone mentions dreaming' method is proving to be difficult: my friends and family talk about sleep and dreaming way more than I originally thought. Still, it's a good habit to get into, I suppose. (I hope. Either it's that, or I'll soon be a twitching bundle of neurosises, compulsively doing RCs and doubting my reality. What fun&#33

THIS ALWAYS HAPPENS TO ME. there must have been 6 times i thought about dream in a dream and didnt rc or become lucid, EVEN WHEN SOMEONE TOLD ME (an imagined dreamviews member) I WAS DREAMING. I think it is a good idea to do an rc every time you think of dreaming or anytime anyone talks of it, i kno its hard, but im gonna try and do it to, kuz man, there are many more possiblieites for LD's if you do that.

I can relate to this, too.

A few nights ago, I had two of these frustrating dreams. In one I wanted to ask an old Choctaw guy if our people had any LDing traditions. In the other, I actually talked to a DC about LDing and she went on and on about psi level (whatever that is) and her LD experience. What a missed opportunity

Wow, I totally didn't see these replies until now. (And I'm totally doing a RC now, too&#33 Good luck, EagleEye and bro. May we never again miss these great lucid-chances.

On a slightly more random note, my mother had her first-ever lucid dream the other night after hearing me natter on about them for months. I'm quite proud of her, but I had to do a lot of RCs after she told me that. The situation felt so dreamlike. Quite weird, that.

(Quick! Are any of you dreaming right now?)

      I hate when that happens!
One I recall right now, I was on a forum like this one, where I had made a "Quick! Do a reality check right now!" topic the day before. I saw it there and thought "I hope someone gets some use out of it..."
      LD Count: 7
Longest time in a lucid dreamstate: ~6 seconds

Still, the most epic six seconds I have ever experienced...

Classic, Drk Pwnr! Sometimes it seems like our brains are actively resisting lucidity.

The website idea is a neat one. Despite the amount of time I spend online, the Internet never features in my dreams. Still, I'm going to try to customize my homepage to read 'DO A REALITY CHECK.'

*does a RC, just in case*

I get the feeling I've done something like this in my dreams before, but I don't recall any specific examples...
recently I have been more suspicious in my dreams, but I never go all the way. I've even had a dream in a dream where I've been told I'm "spiritually advancing" and I didn't realize anything... The other night I think I realized I was dreaming but I was already waking myself up because I didn't like the dream and wanted to make sure I still had my teeth wish I coulda gone lucid instead...

yeah, actually just last night I was in the middle of a dream and joked about lucidity and how i'm the "odd man out in this dream". I didn't even realize the significance of what I said. Maybe I had attained lucidity for just a second, but said screw it and gave it up! How could I? lol

I remember about a month ago I said to a guy who was pissing me off: "If only I knew I was dreaming I would beat the hell out of you"
