my dreams look into the past far too much.

the majority of dreams I remember or take part in are connected someway with my past. i.e. my childhood; including old friends, my old house - school, that sort of thing. I'm surprised i have so much of it stored in my head.. THEN AGAIN, I would rather dream about current events.. and be placed in dreams that are relevant to me now. it would be much more rewarding. it's kind of annoying really. i cannot wait until i finish college so that I can get my dreaming back on track, it will be the best thing. I will start a new d-journal. anyone else having similar problems, what do you think?

Well, now that you mention it, I guess I have the same problem. I hadn't really thought of it as a problem, but I guess I also wish I wouldn't keep going over things that happened a long time ago, and focus more on the present. A lot of my DS, and I think other peoples' too, are people and places from the past, so I guess everybody does it.

I don't know how or if it is possible to change that.

It's not a problem. Why would anyone think it's a problem?
You just need to let go of the past. Did something happen? Something that stuck with you?

I've had dreams like that. Actually, one of my dream symbols (I have many) is my old house, the one I lived in from the time I was three until I was fourteen. It's now just a symbol, and when I dream about it, I realize I am dreaming, and go lucid.

And what does finishing college have to do with getting your dreams back on track? Just curious...
I went to college for almost ten years--got my MFA through UCLA--and was still able control my dreams, lucidly dream, and just just have dreams, period.

Why are you challenging every thing that i am saying? it's not up to you to decide whether or not it is a problem, because I'm telling you for me; it is. considering that all of my dreams refer to my past I think it needs changing. when I finish my work in college, I will be trying to get my sleeping pattern back to normal, and live a less hectic life - meaning I will be able to go lucid more, and remember my dreams.

i have the same issue, i constantly dream about things in the past. whether it's childhood to my last relationship.. they are always popping up in my dreams.

i agree about the annoying part.. and i wish i could dream more about current events as well.

oh well, guess it takes time or it's just the way our brains think

One of the most common places I find myself in dreams is my grandmother's old house; I haven't been there in years and I'll never be there again, but it does keep popping up. I don't think being in past places and interacting with past people is uncommon; like Moonbeam said they're clearly a part of your life. I'd expect it to happen.

I never really thought of it as a problem either, but I can see how it might be for some people. Perhaps getting better with lucid dreaming could change it; once you've got enough control you can turn your dreams towards more current issues. *shrug*
