I wish I could even dream...

      Hey guys

i have been researching dreams simply because I can't even have one. I have a hard time dreaming, and I don't know what to do. I would love to have a lucid dream, but how am I suppose to do that when i rarely dream.

I do dream sometimes, but by the time I wake up I don't remember what it was even about.

Are there techniques to kind of jump start a dream? Is there anything I can do, or am I screwed. Any help is greatly appreciated. I feel as thought I am missing a part of life.

well i had the same issue months ago. then i joined this forum.
Last night i remembered 5 dreams!

im sure these guys got better tips than what i remember right now, but heres the obvious tip:

USE A DREAM JOURNAL, write in the tiniest things you might remember from ur dreams, and you'll notice how you get to write more and more to it each morning

Well, 'motivation' is the magic word. If you block yourself by saying, I'm nuts, I'll never be able to dream, I'm not gonna succeed; and the like, it will be very difficult.
The you should start keeping a dream journal. As soon as you wake up, try to move as few as possible. Let your mind wander to find some clues of your dreams, and think backwards (= "what's the last thing I remember? Why has it come to that?" and so on.) Maybe it's even very difficult the first few mornings to remember remembering ( if you know what I mean). In addition, it may be that you just remember fragments without real connections. Maybe you won't even remember what's the chronolgical order. However, that doesn't matter, write down everything you'll remember. And after a few weeks, maybe even after a few days you'll see some progress.
Btw, it happens that I don't remember my dreams at all but when I'm having breakfast they're suddenly flashing in. Maybe it's the sugar, or the milk...

I don't think personally that you have no dreams. It's more likely that you have lots of "Black Dreams" (I invented that term), meaning you know in the morning that you have been dreaming but you haven't a clue what about.

and welcome to Dreamviews, by the way.

maybe it will help if you knew you did dream every night, probably about six times, you just dont remember.

you should start a dream jornal, that should help.

Hmm.. Should I try to think about things as I go to sleep? I try to blank my mind out to fall asleep.

You guys are right that I dream, but I have no clue what they were about. This really bothers me. My girlfriend has very detailed dreams all the time. She can tell me everything that happened the next day from like 3 or 4 different dreams.

I guess i will keep a small notebook by my bed and when I wake up, the first thing i will to to do is remember and write down what i dreamed about.

I really hope this works, and thank you so much for the warm welcome.

I deleted my post, because I realized it had already been said.
Keep telling yourself how important your dreams are to you, and that you will remember them. And if you keep working at it you will get more and more back.

Welcome to Dream Views, And Good luck.

Yes, and no... It may sound very easy but isn't at all in the beginning: try to relax blank your mind out (as you say) and when you're beginning to fall asleep, try to think about what it would be like to have a good dream, think of something in particular.
You can also try to do the 61 point relaxation technique which is very easy to do. And in my opinion it helps a bit to get vivid dreams

That's exactly how you need to do. But try to remember for a few minutes and then write it down. If you want to write things down instantly your dream could fade easily... However, you need to find your own technique. If one doesn't work try to modify something and try it the next day...

You DO have dreams: about 4 every night. The problem is that you don't remember them. There are two things you can do here.

      1. A kind of MILD, where you firmly tell yourself you WILL remember your dreams tonight.

      2. The long term solution, a Dream Journal. Write down any and all dreams, and you will train yourself to remember.

      Hope this helps!

I thought it was about 6 times a night, lets see, 8x60=480, each rem period is 90 min apart so 480/90=5 rem periods but people sleep for more or less than 8 hours, so it depends on how much you sleep

I was wondering..could it have anything to do with a daily use of marijuana? I am stopping for school here in about 2 weeks. I have always thought it was the reason I didn't remember my dreams. I really hope that helps as well.

      First of all

You do dream, everyone dreams. A great way to remember is to keep a dream journal. Even when you first wake up and think about what you dreamt, even though you don't remember just write what you think you may have dreamt about. Just keep trying and as people have already said motivation is key. You'll get it just keep that dream journal handy.

EDIT : Personally, I don't know if marrijuana maybe an effect .I hear it differs between people but I can see that causing a problem.

The more I read about this stuff the more I recognize certain things. I have experienced SP before. It was scary as hell. I really think 5htp had something to do with it though. I have also felt those deep body vibrations and heard loud sounds when falling asleep. I know I can do this, I just need to learn the skill and technique.

My girlfriend sleeps with me in bed every night. Could this also be causing me not to dream as much?
