Why does your mind make up things and believe them?

Like Im not talking about regular dreams that weird stuff or diffferent things happen and you dont question this new reality. Im talking about the mind actualy thinking about it and believing it.
For example I had a dream last night I was in summer school for Algebra (in real life I passed) but I was looking around at the class and I thought it my mind, "This is the exact class I was in when I took summer school for geometry. (untrue) and then my math teacher was there and I told him that it was such a coincidence that I had a dream that he was going to be our summer school teacher (again not true). So why does the mind sometimes do this? Like I had dreams also in the past, not very common though, but ones where a place I remember being before but I really havent and etc. Anyone know why?

There's speculation that the mind makes no difference between real life and memories. I think with this, like many things, science is still at the "how it works" stage more than being able to explain "why it does what it does".

Hey wolf I sent you a private message.
I don’t really know the exact answer to you’re question. But I think I can compare to what you’re talking about. But that question really makes you think.

      I have a theory.
The body simply has to go into the state of unconscious( sleep) to live and function. You simply must rest/ sleep to gain not only energy but logic for another day. In another case if u haven’t slept in a about 1-2 weeks you would faint or start hallucinating.

I think that since the body and the brain is automatically programmed to rest. Given by Jehovah when we have dreams and are logic is simply to tired and dreary to comprehend anything going on, so if you see an airplane in you’re living room it just belongs there because u are 2 damn tired to actually figure out what’s happening. Usually when it’s a nightmare or when there is danger in you’re dream, you’re logic kicks in.

Overall, we dissmiss wierd things in are dreams as long as we dont feel threatened.
and if we feel threatened logic kicks in..... we get scared.

and of cource i could be worng because I am not perfect, and I dont know everything.
