      dying in a dream....

Im sure there has been a topic on this before, but I have a specific question..
Has anyone ever given in, and let themselves die in the dream, and taken note of what it feels like? (not while lucid. I mean when you think it's real) then find yourself awake in bed, and realize the feeling of dying in the dream, is actually the feeling of waking from the dream?
Ive had a few dream this week where I die, and let it happen, and get freaked out by the feeling of dying, only to smoothly transistion to waking up in bed.

I have died before, both in lucids and non-lucids.

I guess that is right that the dying feeling is actually same as the waking feeling; maybe you just interpret waking up as dying in that particular dream.

What has surprised me is how non-painful and not scary it was. Just going into a swirling void. Of course you are right that waking comes soon after that.

It would be cool to stay in the void for a little longer before waking up.

I never entered a void, the feeling of dying was a completely smooth transition to laying awake in bed. like, at some point, i realize im not actually dying, but thats its a dream and im only waking. Its always comforting, thinking of dying as simply waking up to something new is cool. which is why i made the thread, wanted to see if dying in a dream usually feels like this for people.

the void sounds cool though. maybe i'll kill myself in a lucid and see what happens. heh

      Cool

I was next to a steam train, and I decided I wanted to drive it. So I climb up into the cab, and I start going down the line. I whistle at railroad crossings and at passing trains.
I go down the line for a few miles, then the fireman (who I hadn't noticed until now), was telling me some story about the locomtive. I was half listening cause I wanted to hear the click clack of the wheels on the rails, and the friendly honks of the horn from passing Norfolk Southern trains.
Then, John McClaine from Die Hard was there, and then the train rounded a bend. Up ahead, on our track, was a stopped train. I slowed down, but then I remembered one of my dream goals.
I speeded up and crashed into the back of the train. The other train went flying off the track but miraculously, ours stayed on. Then up ahead we saw the next train. I speeded up more.
When I crashed into this one, I got trown through the roof of the cab, and I crashed into a boxcar. I hurt really bad. And in my mind, in a dream that meant I was dead.
There's my LD dying experience. I've died in non-lucid dreams, but I always woke up.

      EDIT: Here's another:

After we were done, I ran up to the wall door, and told Eric to close it behind me.
Before he could respond, an enemy soldier jumped through the opening, shot Eric, then swung around and stabbed me with his bayonet. It took a moment to register this, and by that time, the bayonet was out of me again, and I was bleeding badly.
It didn't hurt, it felt strange though. Like I had been punched in the chest really hard. Then I took my pistol, and shot the enemy son of a b*tch in the back of the head.

      NOn Ld death

Ya, I died, but it wasn't sudden, it was a police chase and I knew it was up. I got shot and slowly died in my friends arms, until I actually died and watched my friend crying with my body in his hands.

You know, I always die instead of other people I know in my dreams. I just realized that. I'll often die protecting them (and usually take the other bastard down with me) I don't think I've really ever let someone I know die while I live. Its a rarity for me.

I died, and it was extremely terrifying. I was walking through the forest and there was this bee hive that i accidently hit. Thousands of bees came out and covered my body. They stung me until i couldn't move at all and everything went dark. I then woke up.
Have you ever had a dream, Neo, that you were so sure was real? What if you were unable to wake from that dream? How would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world?

Hello, this is my first time writing anything at all on this site and I'm new to this :p

I've had a few dreams where I die due to strange events and situations. I remember something from a dream a few years ago where I accidently used a fire-estinguisher in my face and I remember seeing strange images with vivid colours.

When I woke up there was this nurse right next to me in a dark shabby room and she told me that I had gone blind but I could still see perfectly clear in my dream, although the image seemed a bit narrow, almost like seeing through a folded paper or something.
And then I remember she told me that everything was my fault, and she was staring at me sadly for some reason. Strange dream indeed. I remember I was glad when i woke up to see that I wasn't blind after all. Although I could still see in my dream. Hehe. :p

During a dream I was shot in the head. It didn't hurt, at least not very bad. It felt like my head just went blank and I stopped moving.

I've died a few times in dreams - they seem to fall into two categories. In the first, the death is almost always sudden and unexpected - a car crash, a plane crash, a gunshot in a setting where I wouldn't have expected to be shot - and I wake up instead of dying. These are really disorienting, because I'll go straight from the very real and scary feeling of OH GOD I'M GONNA DIE I'M GONNA DIE HELP HELP to being wide awake and vastly relieved. I don't really know what the sensation of "death" feels like in these because it's always so fast - the main focus of the dream seems to be the very scary panicky feeling that precedes it.

The second category are dreams in which I "die", but the dream keeps going and I end up in some sort of afterlife. (The type of afterlife varies - I've been a ghost, a zombie, ascended to heaven, and in one incredibly creepy dream, was left sitting in a waiting room for several hours waiting to find out whether I would go to heaven or hell.) In these dreams, dying feels - strange, but not painful. Just a weird feeling, which I can't really get into words. Not especially unpleasant, though.

I got hit by a car in my dream last night and I just woke up right before I died.
I think that's the most common.
