If someone completely lies about having a dream...

      Is it still a dream?

I'd say yes because dreams are subjective. They are figments of our imagination and the person who made up the dream blindly believes that they had the dream then who is to say they didn't?

I believe it no longer becomes a dream when the person comes clean about lying about the dream because then it leaves the subjective reality and into the objective.

If you think about it everything is a memory, the present only exists for an instant and how long is an instant? I know it is shorter than a nanosecond, and that's pretty damn short in terms of increments of time. The present is only a derivative of the past... in a purely mathematical sense. I just implied that life is a dream... but now I'm not implying it, I'm stating it.

So, I'd love to hear objective view points on this subject.

I disagree with you. There is a big difference between a fantasy or fiction and something dreamed. The difference is the immersion experience of an entire world created in three-dimensional detail by your brain, quite beyond one's conscious control of every detail.

I can write and create vivid worlds when I do, but I can't even begin to create the sort of things dreams are made of. The emotion, the dreams, the sheer abstractness of it all...They are too real in a way that a work of fiction such as a story just couldn't be.

Though, show me a story that pulls me in to the degree a dream does and I might change my mind.

But isn't that what we are trying to overcome?

That has never been a goal of mine. I want to enjoy the universe between my ears, not wrest control of every tiny detail of it.

      Almost certainly not.

      However....

Psychoanalysis relies on the "free association" of someone saying whatever thoughts come into their head. There's a strong correlation between free association and dreams. But if a dream was "made up" of purely conscious (ego) elements, without any attempt to let unconscious images etc percolate to the surface then I wouldn't have thought it could be analysed in the way dreams could.

Well I'd argue that dreams are the subjective reality and waking life is the objective reality, at least that's how my opinion has changed from the replies here.

Oh, and Yes... I'm actually glad I came back here because my old computer was ruined and I completely forgot to redownload YES.
