How Long Has a Dream Impacted You? (Good Or Bad)?

      Hey everyone

I am just curious, how long has a dream (good or bad--Lucid or not) affected you?

You know how when you first wake up from the dream it leaves an impact on you... sometimes good and you cant get over it, and sometimes bad....

how long has it taken you to get over a dream that has impacted you?

For me it depends on the dream, if it was really good Im happy for at least a couple of hours to a day...it is pretty much the same for bad. One time I had a very bad dream in which a close family friend died, when I woke up I was very depressed, sad, and scared for a few days. I didn't want to be alone during those few days. Its really weird because when that family friend died IRL I wasn't sad or affected at all even though I knew the person for at least 7 or 8 years.

Perhaps not so much on an emotional level, but I can sometimes have a dream about a video game (It's usually completely different but extremely fun) and I will have a strong inclination to play the real game for days or weeks even though I know it's not really the same one.

Can't say I have many emotional dreams but if I do most of the effect is usually gone within an hour or two.

I've had dreams where my parents die or are already dead. It's one of my main fears in life, so I'm pretty much affected those dreams every day...

Emotions in dreams change my life. They change the way I think about things and impact my decisions. As for how long the emotions themselves last? At least several years probably. I once had a dream that restored me to emotional equilibrium and the impact didn't fade.

I can say the exact same thing as AlexLou. In addition, I've also had Dreamt of a place I had never heard of, and a life I have never known, only to discover after some research that the place actually exists, and the life may well have happened. I can honestly say that the Dream still affects me.

I had a dream one time I had all these friends--like fresh out of high school friends--and for whatever reason, we had got involved with the Mafia, and ending up ripping them off of their drugs and money.. The connection I felt between the DC's was amazing..

They told me it was time to go and all I could say was that I would never forget them.

I was actually going to write a book about it called "The Family"

Dreams generally don't have a lasting effect on me due to the fact that I don't understand them at the time and haven't interpreted them. But I think it's the prophetic dreams that hit me the most. I'm often thinking about this one dream that I had with a date in it surrounded by black (which usually means a death of some kind).

It ended up being the date that I went to hospital and had to stay over night, and was subsequently diagnosed with Graves' Disease. Grave, death, etc etc.

Some dreams stick with me for years. In fact, I had lots of nightmares as a child, and those are about the only dreams I still remember from that age.

Negative or positive impact? Some dreams leave me feeling depressed when I awaken, but that tends to fade away quickly. Rather, most of the dreams that impact me longterm are in a good way or at least a way that makes me think. Even the childhood nightmares, I simply find them intriguing.

Once in a while I'll have a dream whose imagery and apparent meaning have a huge effect on me for the better, but I have very low self-confidence and most of the time can "convince" myself that such dreams mean very little and are just wish-fulfillment. :/ For example, I'm heavily interested in Ojibwa culture and mythology and wish I could learn the language; on one occasion I dreamed of staying with a family of Ojibwa, and on another occasion an Ojibwa man spoke to me in his own tongue as if he expected me to understand it; when he translated the message it seemed quite meaningful. In a third dream, there was an Ojibwa lodge in my living room. In yet another dream a famous Ojibwa author was a defense witness for me in court and was going to testify that I was knowledgeable. Such dreams, and especially ones with beautiful scenery, stick with me.

like having dreams that you can't stop thinking about all day?

yeah, those usually just last all day, but they come very rarely. I usually get over what I dream about, unless it's lucid
