      hand signaling from lucid dream

in one of the books i own, i thinks its called exploring the world of lucid dreaming.
in one part of it, steven LaBerge somehow uses hand signals to let the observers know that he was in a lucid dream.
im very curious how he managed to move his fingers or his hands, when technically his whole body is ment to be paralysised by sleep paralysis!
just what else is possible! could you actually stand up while fully in a lucid dream? and go about your day?
im sorry if this sounds strange but i think its really interesting

Aye i just finished one of Stephans books on lucid dreaming! Indeed he did use hand movements and signals while in the dream world.

"In his lab at Stanford, LaBerge has demonstrated numerous times that lucid dreamers can consciously signal with agreed-upon eye and hand movements while brain imagery machines show they are deeply in a dream state. He and D’Urso have also developed an electronic eye patch called the NovaDreamer to facilitate lucid dreaming. The apparatus gives cues of flashing lights to sleepers when they begin rapid eye movement, or REM, sleep."

I've never really thought about it like that, but I think LaBerge only picked up the signals that are sent from your brain to your eye. Then, SP stops your eyes from actually moving, but the signals get sent nonetheless. This is what the FILD technique is also about.

However, this is just my personal interpretation. I wouldn't have a clue on how it actually works.
