Thread: Death in dreams~

excellent questions, love this post. I've had a dream where my father died after he laughed, he was really sick in bed, then just recently about a day ago he appeared in my dream and he was actually walking and talking well. As far as falling i've had at least one dream about falling, i think it was a time travel dream. I was being chansed by someone then i saw this big hole in the ground and i stopped, i tried to jump in but they stopped me and then i just jumped in and as i was falling i woke up and i was laying in my bed with my arms spread out.

- Have you ever had dreams with someone who the next day you found out died?

Not that I remember.

- Have you ever had dreams with people you know have died and still appear in your dreams?

No.

- Have you ever had a dream about falling?

Yes, usually off a building or a tall object but I end up getting myself out of it.

-Have you ever had a dream about you being killed, or near to death or someone you know dying? or a dream with death in general?

Yes, mostly with my mother dying. It's usually in a scene where we're in a room and she impails herself in the neck with a sharp object.

- Have you ever had dreams when you have the feeling of falling or you see yourself falling from something.

Yes, as aforementioned above, usually from a building or tall object.

- What do you think those dreams mean and what they might be telling you?

Most likely that I crave power or the feeling of being independent.

- Any weird dreams that you think are interesting?

I've had countless dreams where I always ended up inside an old house, even though I knew the house inside and out, I was always frightened to go inside etc. Another dream i've had was where I was the ruler of another planet, and I was always engaged in a war. (and won!)

-Any dreams that even now had such a big impact that you still remember?
The ones that involve that old house, it never leaves my mind and i've been having them since I was around 6.

Only once, and I never really saw her, just heard her voice. It was my grandma.

As far as I know, death in dreams mean that you have stress and that you should relieve stress, or you are trying to relieve stress.

Oh yes, I've had many weird dreams. But one in particular was a dream where I met this girl that I've been trying to summon for quite some time. I never got to talk to her face to face, but it's a weird story.

I wouldn't say a "big impact" but there are dreams I choose to remember more than others.

Yes I have, i've actually had multiple dreams that have led up to me being killed in a dream.

2. yes i have. my friend died last year and i've had a dreams about him just after his death. it took around a week to stop dreaming about him, but now it has stopped and i havent had a dream about him since.

4. yeah i have! and for me it was very scary. ok i was in a car with my mom next to me (i was in the passenger seat) and my bro and his friend were sitting in the back. we passed by a bank robbery and stopped at a red light, while we were waiting for it to change, this guy comes up next to my side wearing a clown mask. then he takes out a gun and points it to my head. i start yelling but nothing came out and i look over to my mom and bro but they were acting like they didnt see anything. so once i looked at the guy again i saw him pull the trigger and i woke up.
5. ummm...well im not really sure if this counts but i dreamt i was on a rollercoaster going down and i remember feeling the butterflies in my stomach lol
6. its weird because abotu the bank robbery dream, the next day i saw the news that a bank robbery had occured...so i dont know if that was just a coincidence or a premonition O.O haha but other than that im not really sure, maybe imagination takes over the best of us.
7. yes. i've had this dream several times already. im in a building (more like a tower) and it has many floors. sometimes it seems infinite. so the thing is that each floor is like going to another world. some floors tend to be creepy while others seem they came from a fantasy book. so each time i have this dream, im in a different floor or two floors at a time. the elevator is weird too, it has no cables and its more like it floats up rather being pulled up.
8. the only one that i recall is the one with my grandmother. i havent been to guatemala in such a long time and yet i had a dream about her (the first time) in her house back in guatemala. she passed away awhile back so i guess it was an impact on me since i've only seen her once in person and in the dream it seemed rather real.

most my dreams are random and involve mainly things i've thought of recently, but also things i haven't thought of in a long time and completely new things

Yes. I am on a ledge sticking out of a cliff about halfway up it. There is a dead tree with a single branch and a pomegranate on the end of it. The cliff is in desert and it is desert as far as I can see. I grab the pomegranate and take a bite out of it and it's very refreshing. I then wake up and interestingly enough it's very very hot in my room ( I had slept late, by wall is a sliding glass door). I drag myself to the kitchen for some water and sitting there on the table some just bought pomegranates. Of course i had to eat one.

I believe this is an excellent topic to talk about, since several aspects of a dream usually relate to our current life situation and certain problems we faced in our day or previous days. Death is a rather odd factor though, especially when dreaming about someone close to you. I have dreamt of death, as well as other members of my family, yet no one we know has died the way our dreams predicted, most of them didn't even die.

I do believe though, that sometimes the deceased tend to have a lingering mark in our subconscious. I remember a night when my family slept in a single room since the other rooms became guest rooms. It was the one year anniversary of our deceased grandmother on my father's side. That night, my mom started murmuring in her sleep, saying things along the lines of "Go to the light, go, leave me alone." We had to wake her out of it and she reaccounted her dream, significantly noting the fact that it was my deceased grandmother. It was rather odd, and I felt she had a presence around us.

I've also had several lucid dreams, one of them relating to a current situation at the time. I had a friend who rarely ate at lunch, sometimes complaining of hunger. She was a rather cool friend, odd at times, but nonetheless a rather good friend. That night, I dreamt we were in the area at the back of our school where we usually ate, and she was talking in her usual way. Then she said she was rather light headed, and then asked what was wrong. She faints and I try to call for help, but the area was completely empty. The next morning, I tell her about my dream and made sure she ate. She didn't faint that day, or any day that I know of.

There was one last dream I want to note though, and it was also a rather lucid one. I was a young kid when I had this dream, I don't remember the exact age. I was sitting in the back seat of our car, and it was parked on a dark deserted road. Someone all of a sudden comes to our car, breaks the glass, and tries to gain entry. The keys are still dangling from the ignition, so I start the car and drive off leaving the man behind. My sister was with me in the back seat, and starts to cry. I panic, not knowing how to drive, and continue to drive this endless road. I don't know where it ended, but I woke up shortly after.

Most of the time during rather insignificant dreams, I have certain things flying at me, and all of a sudden, my body "jolts" or spazzes, and I snap awake. It's like my body moves up, bounces up. I think it's like my soul self entering my flesh again after being away. It's a rather "out of body experience," yes, pun intended.

1) no every now and then
2) no i tend to dream of people that are alive
3) yes i dream that im falling from the sky in a random location. i usually end up falling on very hard pavement and then wake up all sweaty.
4) I have had a dream in which a person (probably male in my dream i can never see the face) runs my face over with a train. its weird i know. the weird part is that i never move out of the trains direction
5)yes look at #3. i usually just fall from the sky. i have no idea the location i fell off of.
6)usually the day after i forget about the dream. if i don't it fades away over the course of the day.
7) a weird dream i think is interesting is when i had a dream about a car that was going to hit my moms car. the next morning i told my mom not to go out but oviously she ignored me. later that day she had a car accident. she wasn't hurt btw.
8) the one about the train going over my head. i usually have that dream like 2 times a year. usually during the holidays (weird that i just realized that). that dream really impacted me because i had it for the first time when i was in kinder. its the only one of my dreams that seriously freaks me out. also the fact that i can never see the face of the guy thats driving it

haha, yes, usually when I am sleeping in the car and I fall off the cliff and I wake up before anything gruesome happens.

A dream that keeps reoccuring is about zombies. I am usually the last survivor but I have a few close to death experiences. Another disturbing dream actually took place in HighTechLA. I remember a few familiar faces and we were trapped in dark rooms and from there everything was like from the movie "Battle Royale." Another dream about death that i keep having and it is one of my worst is when a stranger comes into my family's house and hurts my family and myself.

If I get into the list, I am sure it would be much too long. That one that sticks out in my mind is where my mother goes out one night in a small red car and gets into a horrible accident. I see the whole thing *including* them using the jaws of life on her. I asked her to please never get a red car.

1) I have not had a dream yet where i know someone dies the day right after my dreams.

2) My grandfather keeps coming up in my dreams. I never met him but he keeps appearing.

3) I tend to have a lot of these dreams but I get a strange feeling when I wake up as if I fell onto my bed.

4) The only dreams that involve death tends to involve my sister. When I wake up i get real uncomfortable.

This is what I wrote about "death" in dreams. From my understanding of how the spirit (dream) and the world works ... here is a copy of my work:

No. I don’t think I really dreamt about someone who died the very next day. The only thing that I can think of is I have dreamt of people I’ve “lost.” (Like my first cat, my first friend from kindergarten, other people I barely remember…etc.)

No. But some people who were already ‘dead’ became alive again (aka. Zombies of people I don’t know befriend me and ask me to help them find some old music box)

Maybe twice. I hear that people dream about falling a lot but I’ve never had that many dreams like that. I think in total I’ve had two falling dreams and one flying dream. Most of the ‘action’ dreams are about running and walking and roller-blading.

Maybe. I try not to remember those dreams. But I think I’ve had my fair share of those types of dreams. I try to save someone from getting killed or dying and end up almost getting shot. I think one time I got tossed off a cliff and fell into a spear. Death is usually very comical in my dreams, and most of the time it’s not really ‘death’ what is bad but disappearing that scares me in my dreams. Like when I can’t find my parents or try to find my body and it’s not there.

Again, not that many times. I thinking falling is a bad way to describe what happens in my dreams. When I’m falling it’s like I’m standing still, just suspended in air. And all these ribbons help me stay stable in the air. It’s never like a freefall or uncontrollable spirally downwards. It’s more like letting my face breath in the wind and feel all the dew on the leaves.

Those dreams, in my opinion, are boring. I have really profound dreams but they’re not about falling or death. Their about journeys and great quests, new friends, adventures, stamina, color, strange creatures, scary beings, old stories, dogs and cats, claws and teeth, wires, feathers, machines, and sound. I think all my dreams are trying to tell me something as a whole. I think it has something to do with me having an overactive imagination and when I don’t have time to express my art my dreams express all the things building up for me.

I once had a dream that was SO REAL that I believed it the next day. I dreamt that I was a warrior of REM, or someone who could transfer ideas and feelings through touch. I had all these crazy powers and I accidently bumped into people just to see what would happen. One person started singing loudly and another person climbed up the wall like a tree frog. It was crazy and amazing. Again, it was so real that the next day at school I actually tried it out my ‘powers’. I think it kind of worked. -

Ask me each day and I’ll have another dream for you. I remember all my dreams and I have sometime more than two each night.

yes many times...again; I mainly go back to my old neighborhood, Los Angeles, California, it was an okay place just a bad environment but you usually end up taking it as a normal thing and blend in. Usually i get killed when i go because i had a fued with some people and i remember them having weapons (9mm) and i would end up getting shot from the back at the corner which i lived in.

Never has that happened.

Falling dreams tell me that i made a mistake because usually before I fall I see a decision or action i made (minutes or years ago) and i know that I made a mistake and therefore my dreams tell me this.

I think they mean absolutely nothing and that I just have random ass dreams.

Yes, there was this one part in my dream that used to appear in every other dream I had. Theres also a song (Take me Away by 4 Strings) that reminds me of this one dream I had.

One very strange dream I went to this sort of school trip I guess it was.

I remember surfing on this Giant centipede with reigns and going through the crowds trying to find a way out of here and all everyone was slowly becoming mindless zombies as they sat through a bunch of movies in a theatre

1. Not as far as i know, but near to death yes.

2. Yes, not regularly but from time-to-time.

5. That something bad has/will happen and i either know it or it will happen, i swear its really scary.

That I have ever had? Well this one time I had a dream that someone took over my school, put steel over the windows and shut down the electricity and was going to kill everyone, so the entire school population was inside the hallways screaming and running around using their cellphones as flashlights and trying to find a way out. I liked it because I expirienced the feeling of adrenalin and stuff.

i don't remember if i have had dreams where i saw someone i know die, but i have died in the very first dream i remember (i was 6 or 7 years old). i was in a futuristic world, with many elevators. i went into this room, and i remember taking a seat to my left into something that looked like a cockpit. there was a robot (or rather, a person who looked like a robot) sitting next to me. it said something to me, but i forget what (it was a long time ago). i remember being terrified. i ran out of the building, and as i ran, i saw colored lasers and a fear of death. i must have gotten shot, but i felt no pain. i just fell backwards and everything went black. that was the end of the dream. had a pretty big blow on my dream recall, but now i'm building up again. hopefully this helps.

Yes, my grandmas show up all the time.

Yes, several. Usually I'm falling some great distance, like from a plane, and I can see the ground getting closer and closer. I never seem to hit though.

All of the time! I sometimes dream about my husband dying, or someone telling me he's going to die. It happens with members of my close family as well...when I was a kid I believed my brother was going to die young because I had so many bad dreams about it. I guess losing loved ones is a major fear for me, though thankfully, none of these dreams have come true.

- What do you think those dreams mean and what they might be telling you?
As mentioned, I'm afraid of losing loved ones. I saw my grandpa die at an early age and I think it cemented that fear.


- Any weird dreams that you think are interesting?
I have lots of hellish imagery in my dreams, lots of fighting demons. I find this interesting, though I get a bit weary of it sometimes. Also, giant waves and tornadoes are very common in my dreams.


-Any dreams that even now had such a big impact that you still remember?
Way too many to name, so I'm not even going to attempt this.

- Have you ever had dreams with someone who the next day you found out died?

No, but I have dreamt random things that actually happened in real life. For example, I dreamt that I bumped into my friend on a street that we've never been together on, and a week later it happened.

- Have you ever had dreams with people you know have died and still appear in your dreams?

No but I've had pets that died & appeared in my dreams.. It happened to me.. with a mouse! I had a pair of female mice when I was about eleven, I remember playing with them before settling down to watch 'The green mile' and when the poor brown mouse got squished, I remember saying out loud, 'My mouse will never die like that.' and after the film ended, I went to play with them again and found my favourite one lying dead in the middle of their cage with the other mouse huddled beside her.

I cried myself to sleep cos it was the best pet I'd ever had, and I remember waking up in the early morning in my bed, I sat up and decided to look out the bedroom window, when I did, I could see a mouse sitting beside the grave I dug for her, it wasn't a normal mouse, it was the size of a cat, and glowing, pure white, and was kinda seethrough, I remember thinking, 'She's free,' and snuggling down again and fell asleep. Now, as that isn't possible in real life, I think it must have been a dream.

-Have you ever had a dream about you being killed, or near to death or someone you know dying? or a dream with death in general?

Yes. I dreamt that I feel from one of the highest buildings in the world, I remember thinking things like, 'Goodbye Mum, goodbye friends, goodbye world, goodbye everyone, I love you all!' as I fell to my death.. and suddenly I was in a church watching from up high, the church was packed with friends & family. One by one, several of them made speeches about what kind of person/friend I was etc, and when my coffin was pushed through the curtians to be cremated, I woke up with tears streaming down my face cause the speeches were really emotional and I was upset that I had died.. but then I realised, I wasn't dead.. for hours afterwards, I cuoldn't believe I was still alive and had to keep checking, like waving at my mother to see if she could see me.

- Have you ever had dreams when you have the feeling of falling or you see yourself falling from something.

Yes, several times. after one particulary frightening dream, I woke up shaking and with my arms outstretched cause it was so vivid, and so, so real.. and I had discussed with friends the night before about whether it was true if you dreamt that you died, would your heart stop in your sleep. So that, somehow subconsiously, probably made me even more afraid of dying in my sleep.

- What do you think those dreams mean and what they might be telling you?
That my mouse, Brownie, was at peace.. And commiting sucide would be a huge waste of my life.. proven by the absolutely full church. I tried to commit sucide twice, and the dream happened after them.

- Any weird dreams that you think are interesting?
Just the falling, dying, and the cremation one.. and the horrifying dreams that I used to have.. when I was younger.. my last one was at 10 years of age, I had more horror filled dreams after that but they're weren't as scary as the ones I used to have when I was younger. (I'm 16 atm.)
