      My Oldest Nightmare.

My recurring nightmare from when I was young.

I need help working out what this dream mean. It was from when I was much younger, but I still remember most of the events which happened during this recurring type dream. It was not always the exact same dream each time, it was more the topic and scene were exactly the same every time.

When I was younger I would sleep walk on most nights. If this happened and I woke up for a second while on the toilet I would fall back into a recurring dream. The dream had no sound and everything was really eerie. There would be a chess table with massive chess pieces on it (from my view). All of the pieces seemed old and I'm not sure if they ever moved, I just remember seeing them set up. My view would always be right near the pieces. I'm not sure where it was, it didn't seem to have a place, the chessboard would be all that was in existence. Also I didn't take form in this part of the dream I would just have different views looking upon the game.

My dream would then change to a different scene, it was always the same house. It was a random house which I hadn't seen ever apart from in this dream. I would usually be walking around the outside of the house and everything would be hazy and the whole thing would go really slowly still and all of the noises from the scene were quiet, I could barely hear them. There might have been one where I was actually in the house, but as it was a long time ago I cannot remember that properly. All of the colours from these scenes would be like that in a scary movie. I had never seen a scary movie at the time because I was very young. I think that I was trying to get inside of the building. I would usually see one of my brothers while walking around the building, but it would only be for a second and they would disappear, although that wasn't significant I didn't really notice it happening at the time. I'm pretty sure there was a presence of another person around, sometimes being in the building and other times outside.

Between the transition there would also be random images faces and body parts mainly (I think) and quick and sharp noises like those which are used in modern horror films except they would be more hollow and deep and I could feel the noise run through me. The worst part was when it went dead silent. It would constantly and randomly change between all of these different parts of the dream, waking me up at times from getting freaked out, but then I would fall back asleep and it would happen again.

I have never been able to work out why I had this dream.
Some nightmares can help communicate our fears but what the hell is with this?

Can someone please move this to Dream Interpretation?
I didn't notice until now that there was a sub-forum for this.

I can't remember much scenery, I think it was because the dream was focused on the house.

I know that there was a stone path that went around the whole house and that there were small plants between the foot path and the house.

We would need more details. Im of the school of thought that we are each ourselves the best analyser of our own dream sign. I could provide help, but its much to vague, so vague I feel you're the best to analyze it.

Take each part of the dream and describe what they represented for you. Why a chessboard, why were the pieces so big? What are big chess pieces?
      etc etc

The only thing this makes me think about otherwhise is Zork, old dos text game

      West of house
You are standing in an open field west of a white house, with a boarded front door.
There is a small mailbox here.

      >Examine mailbox
      the small mailbox is closed

      >Open mailbox
Opening the small mailbox reveals a leaflet

      >Get leaflet
      Taken
There is nothing like a dream to create the future.

My main problem is that most of the things in the dream don't make sense to me. I was hoping people could make suggestions of what they might mean.

The reason it contained a chess board was probably because chess played a big part in my life when I was young. I learned to play chess at a very young age and naturally picked it up. At very young ages I would play my father, who was a very skilled player yet I was able to beat him. When we played he would move his pieces while I wasn't looking, but when I turned around I would pick up straight away where he had moved and I would always have a counter for every move prepared.

Playing chess was something I enjoyed doing so I have no idea why I would have nightmares which contained chess in them.

The chess board and pieces would represent exactly what they were, nothing more or less, that is apart from their size which was much larger than usual.
