      Nutty dream. Fear. Malveolence. Voices.

I partly want to share this, partly need help with interpretations.

The other night I fell asleep thinking about two things; one being how deep our minds go - how there is a vast universe between our ears which we will probably never have the chance to understand fully. The other thing, which led from this, is how people are generally afraid of the unknown, especially the unknown about themselves or what is hiding inside their own head. We're, as a culture, petrified of "craziness" or not having a "normal" mind.

So I fall asleep with these thoughts in my head and fell right into a dream (unusual since it usually takes a few hours to get into full REM sleep). I don't remember any details from the first part of the dream, but I do remember the atmosphere: malevolence. Not like a nightmare where you're afraid of something, but just everything around me seemed to have some kind of a hellish vibe about it. Not so pronounced early on, but it would escalate throughout the dream.

The first scene I specifically remember was me and a few friends riding in the back of a pickup truck...one of the trucks with wooden panels on the side you might expect to see carrying hay. I remember looking at my friends, but their faces were obscured by some sort of shadow. Moreover, it almost seemed like their personalities were obscured by a similar sort of veil. I knew who they were, I recognized them as my friends, but I didn't know them at all. They said nothing in this scene.

Next scene was me driving my car with these same people. I didn't look at them (as I recall) so I don't know if the "shadows" were still there. I was driving through some winding, hilly, back country road. Normally I would relish in this, but I was very uneasy. Every blade of grass, every rock, every tree, every molecule in the atmosphere had some sort of a malevolent, hellish, fearful intent to it. It was like being surrounded on every side by fear itself, while not necessarily being afraid of anything in particular.

At some point, someone in the car realized that we has missed a turn some time ago and we had to turn around. We all agreed, and I began looking for a suitable place to stop the car and turn. in fact, anywhere would do, but for some reason, nowhere would work. I tried to make myself simply pull the car over, but I couldn't. It wasn't that the car wasn't behaving as I told it to (as is the case in many of my dreams where I'm driving), but instead, I had no control over myself. I told myself "stop the car" and I wouldn't. It was as if something else was in control of me.

Eventually my friends became impatient at the fact that I was still driving forward and began yelling at me. Their yells amplified the hellish nature of my surroundings, and I became extremely uneasy. I started driving faster to try and drown out the noise. It was then that I came across a working farm on that road. I know I'm supposed to slow down for courtesy and safety, but for the same reason I couldn't turn the car around, I couldn't slow the car down.

I became fearful that the farmers would get upset. As soon as that fear entered my mind, I heard a female farmer screaming something like "SLOW DOWN" and some other words which were probably just white noise. Then that voice became two...then five...then a hundred, and almost instantaneously there were what seemed like thousands of voices screaming in my head, each carrying its own negative emotion in their purest forms. Pure hatred. Pure fear. Pure evil. All streaming into my head at a thousand miles per hour. It was more than I could stand. The farm, the car, friends, had all disappeared, and it was just me in a scene from earlier in my dream with these voices in my head.

I let out a scream. It was the loudest, most intense scream I could muster (and it made noises which I doubt exist in real life). The "voices" were launched out my ears in the form of static noise and white light, and I was returned to calmness.

This next part is what really weirded me out.

I then began going through the hypnagogic state (basically the state between waking and dreaming, you can read more about it with that link), which by pure coincidence, I occasionally am councious going through. For me, it usually consists of rapid, violent vibrations and mild flashing lights. I typically enjoy it. I find it fun. Not this time. The fear from earlier had re-entered my mind with these vibrations (probably a result of the confusion of the dream, I had no idea what was going on). I then heard, or maybe noticed, something. It was very vague and seemed to be hiding behind the vibrations. I set myself on trying to figure out what this was. The fear vansished. In a way which words fall short of decribing, everything became more clear and it felt as if I had entered a deeper state of conciousness. I then heard what the noise was. It was a voice, almost spot on perfect with Stephen Hawking's computerized voice, and in an odd way it seemed synchopated or in rhythm with the vibrations. It said:

"LISTEN TO THIS MESSAGE AND SEE IF YOU CAN HEAR ME"

      What?

I tried saying "I heard you," but my mouth wouln't move because I was in sleep paralysis, so I just thought it.

The vibrations stopped and I entered a dream world. It was my bedroon (in a dream). Normally I'd have loved the chance to run around in a lucid dream, by my head was racing from what had just happened and I wound up waking myself up. I went to my desk at 3am and wrote this down on 5 sheets of paper.

      That's creepy. O_O

That's why I try to clear my mind before going to sleep so I don't have any weird/scary dreams.

Interesting, especially the part when you were in the hypnagogic state.

I have also been in that state before and have heard a very clear disembodied voice. It said, "Where is the power stone?", which I had no idea what it meant. I knew nothing of any "power stone". For all I knew Power Stone was a game for the Dreamcast. It made no sense.
