Waking up in the middle of the night, without intention

It's been a while for me, but I've regained my interest in the dream sphere. These past couple of weeks, I've just been warming up by keeping dream related themes flowing through my head throughout the day.

I haven't done any induction techniques, nor have I attempted to go lucid (yet), though I've had a number of very vivid dreams during this time, which brings me to the conclusion I am close.

What's strange is I keep waking up during the night without intention. I'll go to sleep, and just randomly wake up around the same time (4-5ish) and then struggle to go back to sleep at times, only to wake up again after the alarm from a deep sleep & a very vivid dream(s).

Is this normal? Maybe I should take advantage of this to use some of the techniques.
Just curious if anyone else has experienced something similar.

Yes, you should definitely take advantage of this. The DEILD technique relies on you getting up in the middle of the night. You should look into it, it looks very promising for you.

It's not terribly uncommon. In fact, everyone wakes up after each sleep cycle completes, most just don't notice it.

Personally, I am aware of each awakening, and that does come with certain advantages and disadvantages. Falling back asleep multiple times a night can get annoying, but it gives you a great chance to commit dreams to long term memory, if they were interesting.

As a side note, DEILDs are hard to pull off when waking from a non-lucid state. However, they're easy as hell when they follow a lucid.

waking up in the early morning adds to the effectiveness of most techniques. for example, if you want to use a mantra it will be more effective if repeated right before an optimal time for lucid dreaming (for me that's 4-6 am). it will be more heavily on your mind during the next series of dreams.

and i agree with what Mzzkc said about DEILDs... but i actually enjoy mornings in which i wake up lots of times
