Imprtance of dreams in regards to 'creativity'

During dreaming, non-lucid dreaming, the only part of the brain inactive during the synthesis of the dream is the part of the brain controlling logic. Therefore our dreams are a medium of creation unrestrained by logic and reason.

Albert Einstein, Neil Bohr, 'Doc' from Back to the Future. These people all revolutionized our understanding of the world. And they did so through dreams. What makes dreams so good at learning brand new, often uncomprehensable things, is that we aren't restricted by what we know.

Reality is less predictable than we'd like to think, and often solutions to complex problems aren't reasonable. So in our dreams we are able to explore things without any sort of bias put on by what we think or know to be true.

An 'illogical' world is much easier to decode when you're not confined by logic.

There's my little rant. I just want to try and convey the importance of dreams in regards to discovering new things.

      Agreements, disagreements, thoughts?

Many of us here are aware that amazing ideas and artworks have been and can be inspired from dreams and lucid dreams alike. There are many famous examples.

Indeed, there's quite a bit to be said about creativity and dreams. If I see a piece of work that can accurately the feeling of dreamscape, I consider it to be of the highest caliber. Perhaps there is something to be said about the inverse of the idea, as well.

I remember seeing an interview with Marilyn Manson some time ago (not that I personally care for his music all too much) where he was talking about his songwriting process. I guess he and his bandmates sometimes use sleep depravation as a creative tool. I wonder if depriving the right brain of its most active time during sleep could cause it to be increasingly overactive as the waking period continues. I always assumed that was the reason that long periods without sleep caused people to hallucinate.

I'm not suggesting that by not sleeping we can effectively channel all of the right brain's capability to create, but I dunno, maybe there's some validity to the idea. I suppose it'd be pretty hard to test this, as there are really no ways to measure artistic validity, and the process as a whole is so different from person to person.
(((O It is a good viewpoint to look at the world as if it were a dream. If one were to have something like a nightmare, he would wake up and tell himself that it was only a dream. It has been said that the world we live in is no different than this. O)))

I don't know what part is in charge but just before I fall asleep that little dead spot is like a blackboard in my mind, the hardest part is pulling yourself out long enough to write something down!
